Spy shot of next Mini?
Mac Rumors forum member Monthy posted what is likely to be the next Mini. Or a very solid Photoshop.
He/she gave the following specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz 3MB L2 cache
2GB RAM DDR III, 1066MHz
Super Drive is SATA
Do you need 5 USB ports? Thoughts?

The Firewire 800. Dead giveaway of a fake. My mini only has 400 and all firewire has been in it's phaseout stages.
I could see them going with one 800 port instead of a 400 port just to stay current and have an option for professionals. I mean this is a $600 desktop computer after all.
no, 400 is being phased out, not 800, and thats on a laptop with limited space (the ports cover the width of the motherboard.
What have you been smoking? The mini is big in business solutions, taken FW out would be stupid. Its only been phased out of consumer Macs which are geared towards winblows converts.
Non mac keyboard, non mac mouse, printer, external HD, iPhone/iPod. And that's just the basics :-)
well firewire kind of makes sense on the mini, why would they fase it out, the main reason why Apple left out firewire out of the Macbook is to create a gap between it and the Macbook Pro, it's a pro feature. But for the Mac Mini it's just a given somehow.
This could be real. But again I'm taking this with the usual pinch of sea-salt.
I think it's neither real nor photoshop, but just a fake mac mini...
Firstly because I don't think anybody would ever be able to spyshot something apple is preparing unless it is just a few hours before it actually does
Secondly because I don't think that apple would ever update the mini into aluminum and leave the back plastic.
Just someone built that thing and he couldn't make the ports aluminum too.
sounds believable to me.
2.0 as the lower model and 2.4 as the faster model
FW 800 is sure to stay. I just don't see why apple shoudl offer 2 display ports
What's with the wooden surface? Apple don't R&D or manufacture on wooden worktops!
Do you really know this or are you just guessing? Although to me, the pattern looks more like a floor than a table.
My guess (or hope): It was a prototype, but then they decided to change the look. I do desire a redesign. If this is it, however, I'll be pleased for now.
If this is it, I'm disappointed. It appears to be roughly the same size and shape as the original Mini. Granted, it's still small and uniquely Apple-esque. But one hopes that Apple would shake up the design and do something beyond just giving it an aluminum shell. Am I crazy here?
Are you joking????? Same size and you get a much more power gfx card, FireWire 800, both minidviand nmini displayport, one more usb...
Apple can do more, we know... but i think if it is true is a very big improvement for the little MacMini
Are 1/2 of you guys retarded ?
"Just someone built that thing and he couldn't make the ports aluminum too"
You have got to be kidding me !
Firewire 800 is a dead giveaway of a fake ?
again, how stupid are you ? firewire 400 is being phased out, but firewire 800 isnt going anywhere. Its easily one of the fastest and most reliable methods of data transfer.
Stop being silly, and enjoy the new mac mini!
A quick look over at apple UK's mac mini page states that it still ships with iLife 08. Perhaps they failed to update it because they expected thenew mac mini to ship at macworld?
i can maybe see that many USB ports but i dont think i've ever seen a mac that doesnt have each USB port tagged with a USB label
The current Mac Mini only has one USB label above all four ports in the middle.
Not sure about the FW800. Extra USB and MiniDisplay port for 24" display. Mini DVI for attaching VGA monitors. White plastic like on lower end Macbook. No aluminum top - interference with Airport.
The Mac mini has always had an aluminum enclosure. It was second behind the PowerMac.
U can see even the photoshopping in parts of the perspective and the background around the "mini"

Specs differentiate from Apple TV (no HDMI). Single FW800 makes sense for an 'Apple Home Server' type box. Also for connecting to video gear and high end audio. Lots of places this device would fit right in, without competing against iMac or MacBook.
Two video outputs makes sense, if the onboard video supports dual screens. In which case, the two different connector types is a cute and useful idea.
Personally, I'm hoping the 802.11n is supported, and the current speculation is silent on that. I'm betting that is is there though.
From Left to Right
¿ Power
¿ 1 Ethernet 10Gb Ethernet
¿ 1 Firewire 3200 - Gives you all the Power of Firewire plus a faster transfer rate.
¿ 1 Dual Link DVI - Hook up to old TV or display ( similar to old cards with 1 DVI and 1 VGA)
¿ 1 Apple Display Port - Hook up to the new display
¿ 5 USB 3.0 Ports - Yes, now you can run a Soft RAID 5 with your Mac Mini, if you have enough processing power to handle the load.
? 1 Digital Audio
? 1 Audio Out Analogue
Hope that Clears it up for you. Don't ask how I know, I just know Apple would give us the best 8 core they can, upgradeable to 8GB RAM.
The port you have as the digi audio in a combo digi / analog audio IN. The other is the combo digi / analog out. Just like the Macbook and Macbook pros.
I think the weirdest thing here would be the two options on display ports. That's far more confusing than the FW800. Why would Apple have two different display ports? Dongles are the way they work with all laptops and iMacs. If the mini display port is the way of the future, then go with it. Mini DVI does not belong here.
No. Just no.
why do we need a mini DVI and mini display port? Why not have two mini display ports
I thought it looked real and then once I looked at the power plug on the left side of the device it just seemed fake. And now I cannot look at it and think it is a real photo.
Pathetic if real. After all this time. Come on Apple, innovate will you. You're starting to loose me.
I was hoping for a HDMI port.
I think you mean...
"Come on Apple, innovate, will you?"
see, it's a question, so it should end with a question mark.
and "You're starting to lose me" LOSE, not LOOSE.
And, why do you want an HDMI? Display port is a HiDef digital video standard, as well... You can always get a $20 DVI-HDMI cable from the Apple store, and run audio thru TosLink and keep it all digital just the same...
HDMI as a standard is going away, it's too restrictive. I have a TV in my living room and one in my bedroom. The TV's are back-to-back on wall mounts, and I hooked up an HDMI amp/splitter so I can watch TV in both rooms as I wander around the house. But, many HDMI sources that don't comply to the standard to the letter won't allow the signal to split, even though everything is technically HDCP compliant. It's maddening, so I run everything thru either DVI or analog component. I can split and amp these signals all day long without a problem.
Thank goodness I bought all my cables from ExtremeMac and Belkin from the Apple store ($20!) . I'd be p!$$ed if I had 4 or 5 $100 Monster HDMI cables sitting in a drawer now.
i agree...but idk, HDMI sounds more convincing because it actually has the acronym "HD"...if it has the word high def, everybody goes ga-ga (i don't see why...any resolution is fine with me)...anyways, high definition multimedia interface...idk, jus wanted to point it out...
"I was hoping for a HDMI port."
you stupid idiot.. its got displayport. shut up
