Macbookair.com registered by ....

Talk about your interesting days! The Macbook Air Rumor went from a whisper to to an explosion today with all of the little tidbits being dug up. The latest is that Apple has registered the domain names macbookair.net, .org, .biz, etc.

But not macbookair.com? Who did that was a big mystery. Well it turns out that it was Arn at Macrumors.com! Arn, being the huge Apple fan that he is, said he is happy to transfer it to Apple if requested.

Right now, depending on your DNS, he has http://www.macbookair.com forwarding to:

http://www.apple.com/?Will+We+see+a+MacBookAir+on+Tuesday?

No. You are the idiot. No way they would publicly register a domain for a secret product early. Or ever, for that matter, they don't own macbook.com or macbookpro.com. What makes you so unwaveringly certain that they would have registered this product's .com domain when they have never done that before? I'm not saying there is or is not going to be a macbook air tomorrow, but your logic makes no sense.

Hmmmm...tough call. If they don't own macbook.com and macbookpro.com and, as you imply, macbookair.com, then why would they bother registering macbookair.org, etc.

My gut tells me "there's something in the air" refers to something else. There may well be an ultraportable macbook, but that won't be it. Probably air synching.

Although it if really is induction charging (which it won't be, cause that would be just nuts), that'd really be some news.

Oh, and I agree, "there's something in the air" is meant to be taken literally—data is going to be transferred over the air, rather than with cables. Wireless synching doesn't seem big enough (bluetooth and wifi aren't exactly new technologies). Induction charging seems far fetched, as you say. 3G built into macbooks? WiMax? A new wireless NAS? Wireless optical drives? Wireless Time Machine backup seems pretty probable, considering it was in early developer releases of leopard, but that's hardly something to build the whole teaser message around. I'm guessing a combination of 2-3 of the above, but I'm sure I'll be surprised one way or another. If they release a truly wireless notebook with all (or most) of the above, that would be absolutely sick. I better lock up my credit cards now just in case.

I think they're going to announce that they've solved the cold fusion problem and then Steve Jobs is going to levitate in front of the audience and announce that he is God and the world is going to be renamed iPlanet.
