Microsoft losing share in OS and browsers

Microsoft is having a bad month. Redmond is losing share in Web metrics as well as in the OS market.  (Oh and people are buying up old PCs for the XP licenses)

In the broader operating system market (depicted below) you'll notice that Apple's OS's (Mac and iPhone) now operate at over 9.25 percent of the market. Microsoft dipped below 90% for the first time ever in this survey.

Firefox also had a great showing, scoring over 20% of the browser Marketshare for the first time ever.  Safari and Chome also gained ground on Internet Explorer.

Microsoft dipped below 90% for the first time ever in this survey.

Huh? Surely they didn't enter the market at over 90% market share?

Note how it was phrased, "first time ever in this survey". This is the first time in the history of THIS SURVEY they fell under 90%. They've probably only been doing this survey for the past few years or so.

This is BS

Let's compare apples to apples. The survey includes iPhones but not windows mobile. What about all of the other devices that run windows OS, Pocket PC, Ultra-Portable PC and so forth. This "survey" is complete BS.

Are you kidding or just

Are you kidding or just ignorant? Windows Mobile is included in the "Other". Yes, iPhone is used THAT MUCH.

Thank goodness!

Haha, KA. That's a pretty funny observation :)

Also, thank goodness IE is losing browser marketshare. It's totally the slowest thing available. Personally, I can't wait until Chrome comes to the Mac. It's fast as blazes on Windows; hopefully the same is true on Mac.

Plus more competition is always better!

That must be market share in

2332

That must be market share in America only. I get why people would want to move from Windows to OSX but the Safari part baffles me. Safari might be the only browser that's worse then internet explorer. I don't use it because it crashes all the damn time and doesn't render a lot of web pages correctly. Most other Mac users I know don't either. Firefox seems to be the browser of choice.

When was the last time you

When was the last time you used it? I've never had any problems with Safari 3 except the 3.2.0 crash bug.

Calculations, dood

Did anyone notice that 6.67% and 0.37% sum up to 9.24%? And not to "over 9.25%"??

Sheesh :)

8.87% of course :)

In Europe FF usage is much higher than in US. Probably thanks to US, IE is getting so many users :)

Why there is iPhone, but no

Why there is iPhone, but no Symbian? This Survey is Crap.

P.S I'm a Mac.

Tracking firm admits data is skewed

The Industry Standard contacted the tracking firm that produced the data. A representative admitted the data was geographically skewed. In addition, several events in November may have impacted the results. The story is here:
