Jobs on iPad: eBooks $9.99, 140 hours of music playback, more...
As previously noted, Walt Mossberg got a chance to speak with Steve Jobs following the unveiling of the iPad on Wednesday and the video was posted to All Things Digital. You can find a full transcript of the conversation below…
The video pasted below shows the interaction. The part you care about starts at 1:55.
- Prices of eBooks from the iBooks app will be "the same" as those charged on the Kindle and the Nook
- Jobs says that "publishers are withholding books from Amazon"
- The iPad will have "a bit more than 10 hours" of battery life when reading books
- The device will play music for "140-something hours" with the screen off
- You'll be able to type in the Pages app, export to a Word .doc and send the file in an email all from the iPad
UPDATE (2/4/10): Perhaps when Steve said 'iBooks' would cost "the same" he meant $14.99 seeing as 3 out of the 5 publishers mentioned in the iPad launch have forced Amazon's prices higher (Gizmodo).
Interestingly, when Mossberg asked if the iBooks would cost $14.99 (implying Amazon's prices would rise) or $9.99, Jobs paused, "Uh..." and then just said, "the prices will be the same." Steve always seems to be 10 steps ahead...
Mossberg: "Why should she buy a book for $14.99 on your device when she can buy one for $9.99 on Amazon on the Kindle or from Barnes & Noble on the Nook?"
Jobs: "Well that won't be the case..."
Mossberg: "You mean you won't be $14.99 or they won't be $9.99?"
Jobs: "Uh...the prices will be the same."
Jobs: "The publishers are withholding books from Amazon cuz they're not happy with the..."
Jobs: "A bit more than 10 hours..."
Mossberg: "Really?"
Jobs: "Ya."
Mossberg: "Music, a lot more than 10 hours?"
Jobs: "Oh ya, music, it is, uh...140-something hours, I think...of contiguous music playback."
Mossberg: "140? And reading? What about reading?"
Jobs: *Inaudible*
Mossberg: "Its over 10? Because you know Amazon's is measured in days..."
Jobs: "Its all about the display...our chips don't use hardly any power."
Mossberg: "But that's the key, you're doing an ebook reader that isn't using e-ink that gives you really beautiful color and led..."
Jobs: "And you can read at night..."
Mossberg: "I get it, but on the other hand, there's a battery cost to that..."
Jobs: "You know there isn't...cuz you just end up...plugging it in. I mean you just end up docking it or whatever you're gonna do with it...its not a big deal. I mean, 10 hours is a long time, you're not gonna read for 10 hours"
Mossberg: "So should I write my review of this on this?"
Jobs: "Sure. Get Pages and write it in Pages."
Mossberg: "I could save it as a Word doc like on a Mac?"
Jobs: "Yes, you can."
Mossberg: "And then send, cuz believe me, the editors don't know anything about Pages, the onkly know about docs."
Jobs: "You could export it to...you could make a Word version...write it in Pages and make a Word version and send it in an email to your editors."
Mossberg: "All from here?"
Jobs: "Ya."

That Kara needs to learn about framing.
El Jobso seemed really uncomfortable with being asked questions, especially about battery life.
And to shut her yapper.
Apple fan or not, Mossberg needs to show people respect when talking to them. It does not matter if it is Steve Jobs or a homeless man, you don't point your finger like that unless you want to be slapped like a bitch!
More like annoyed. Thats just typical Jobs, gets annoyed by stupid questions like that. Lol I love how hes always like "not that big of a deal." It really isn't, lol just plug the thing in. Mossberg was being pretty obnoxious.
Very scary being so close to Mossberg's ugly mug.
LMAO he pissed Jobs out !
Jobs is a changed man.

"Listen motherfcker! Next time keep me in the loop! KEEP ME IN THE LOOP! I better have an iPhone 4.0 on my desk 1 week before you reveal it!"
that's my picture caption for Mossberg talking to Jobs.
I'm surprised that Mossberg didn't know that over 3 million Kindles have been sold in North America through the latter part of 2009.
Jobs seemed like he really didnt want to talk to Mossberg.
Though I might agree on the surface, wouldn't Jobs not be back there or near Mossberg if he didn't want to speak with him?
