Apple New Bluetooth Keyboard Forgoes Keypad, Becomes Ultimate Mediacenter Remote!Wed, 08/08/2007 - 05:25 — Quincy Pince-Nez
Apple's dramatically smaller bluetooth wireless keyboard that debuted alongside the redesigned iMac is not just thinner but it also loses the number pad arrow keys and that little area with "Help", Home" etc. Size-wise it is very similar to just lifting the MacBook keyboard off of its body and carting it around. This isn't a device for the desk. This is a remote control. Obviously a good fit for the iMac that is an entertainment device. Perhaps also for some other devices? A Bluetooth phone? The iPhone doesn't yet accept Bluetooth Keyboards but it obviously could with a software update. Or perhaps a better keyboard for the UMPC's and Sony UX line? But the biggest market might be in entertainment. We can see this as being the MUST-HAVE media center remote whether it is PC or Mac based. With it's small size, media keys and incredible style, who can resist the next big remote? Not us!

Shipping Time
Is there any update on the 3 - 5 week shipping time that was listed on the website yesterday. Seems a bit odd to me, especially if you want to place your imac order as i do, and want the wireless kit.
Is it a case that the wireless keyboard isnt ready and they didnt want to delay the imac any longer??

I think he announced this on the day they filed FCC paperwork since it would be made public after. The remaining time is prolly getting it approved and shipping

They should have added a trackpad or something, then the BT keyboard would be the ultimate media center remote. Now, its just the best looking tiny BT keyboard, which is good enough for me ;)

That's a great idea, a little trackpad where the numbers and arrows were. And let's make it multitouch. That would be nice. (Apologies to the lefties.)

I'm so upset about the new
I'm so upset about the new Bluetooth keyboard. I have the white Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth Mighty Mouse. I was going to replace my current wireless keyboard with the new one. But, I need a full sized keyboard. What is the point of having a wired keyboard and a wireless mouse? The whole point is so that I can take the keyboard and mouse and move them out of the way when I have something else to do at my computer desk. If I have my MIDI keyboard plugged in for GarageBand I like to move the keyboard and mouse off the desk. So if I go with the new keyboard, I’ll be forced into buying the wired one. Errr!
