Macworld Expo Rumor: New MacBook Pros to be revealed tomorrow?

Apple may introduce new model MacBook Pro models tomorrow, just in time for the opening of Macworld Expo, we’ve learned this evening.

This is yet another leak coming at us out of France, and while we’re not utterly convinced at the source we do note revelation last weekend of an all-new MacBook Pro configuration making an appearance on GeekBench.

French website Nowhere Else claims Apple will introduce the new models tomorrow, citing “an anonymous source who works at Apple”.

The GeekBench tale this weekend shows a MacBook Pro with a Core i7 M 620 clocked at 2.66GHz running an unreleased build of Mac OS X 10.6.2 scoring an impressive 5260.

The scarlet pimpernel of the GeekBench was also running an unreleased version of Mac OS 10.6.2 (Build 10C3067) and Bios MBP61.88Z.004C.B00.1001251657.

And as one final note - other than suggesting a quick glance at the (not especially deep) discounts across the MacBook Pro range on Amazon right now, don’t neglect MacRumors’ claims MacBook Pro inventory has been dwindling...but please carry the caveat that we're not utterly convinced on the French source.

A lot of rumors been floating around after the iPad introduction. Just hope that the OS is upgraded to include TRIM for SSD users and is backward compatible with current MBP owners. Personally, I think that new MBP using the new Intel Core iX is still some time away, but you never know for sure with Apple.

I hope. I hope. I hope. I want a 15' i7mobile with 640gb or 1tb HD (a real stretch); 8gb ram, glossy screen, iWork. My 13' 2.4ghz 320HD 4gb ram is the best laptop I've ever owned. Ever. I can run processor/memory intensive programs under Parallels and it doesn't even blink.

All these rumors, speculation, and prognostications...When the "new" MacBook Pro's come out, we will all have to wait, and see, what's inside. It probably is going to come out with i7Cores and i5Cores. The new 32 nm Arrandale chips, were just demoed, and released after CES. Will Jobs use these (question quantities available), or go with the 45 nm Cores, already out on the top-end Windows machines. The 45 nm Clarksfied Core i7, 820QM, would be my choice for speed, power, and battery life. But one, must remember, that with 4 cores, and 8 threads running, you are not going to get 8 hours of battery life. There are always trade-offs, some better, than others. We should see discrete advandced graphics cards, and would definitely see USB 3.0, and maybe even, Light Peak port.

LightPeak isn't even a standard yet, and the specs have yet to be released. And there are no LightPeak controllers, cables, or connectors on the market because they've yet to be specified.

So I wouldn't count on LightPeak support, since no one in the industry knows the details yet. All we've heard so far about LightPeak is a friggin' press release.

Just give me an officially-supported SATA II interface and I'll be happy. The "Pro" in the product name is a joke until this happens.

Bad news.

First, there is no such thing as SATA II.

Second, the MacBook Pro has a 3.0 Gb/s SATA bus... And Apple certainly supports the SATA bus running at 3 Gb/second. The thing they don't support is someone else's equipment. If you slap in a drive, you're supporting that drive.

Not true.

The drives that Apple ships with their laptops are not SATA II, they have Apple-specific firmware that limits them to SATA I. They have a bus that supposedly is capable of SATA II, but a great many people have had serious problems with it actually working with SATA II drives, and the official specifications from Apple only list the Mac Pro as supporting SATA II drives (and, if there really "is no such thing as SATA II", why would Apple explicitly call it out as supported in the Mac Pro… but not in the MacBook Pro?).

Terribly well said. I would plump for the Arrandale 32nm as we all know Apple's penchant for battery life. Dare I postulate 2 core i5's for the 13" and 4 core i5/i7's for the 15/17's? Do excuse me if my nomenclature is awry...

All i want is a 2000$ MacBook pro 15" hd res, 4 gig ram and core i5.

All these idiots think that it is cool to play games on MacBook don't, I fried my late 2008 MacBook.

From now its gaming on the pc and the rest on the MacBook pro.
