I don't understand...

1214

No blu-Ray, not even as an option, on the new iMacs?

WTF?

Floppy disc instead, may be?

Two choices for me here: I go Sony, or I sell all my hardware/software and retire to the woods...

Why would you want Blu-Ray,

134

Why would you want Blu-Ray, honestly? I mean, no software comes on it. It's basically a multi-media format. Even then, if you can afford one of these Macs, you've got to have a nice big TV that you'd prefer to watch blu-ray on. If not you can hook a blu-ray player up to this monitor. Having it built in would add a lot of cost and additional software development for only a few users that really care. Optical media as a delivery for multi-media content will be mostly dead in 5 years.

mac mini server

65

The new mac mini server costs €949, if i would configure the mini plus snow leopard server plus external firewiredisks (1TB) it would easily cost €1300. I love this new offer, and I'll definitely get one soon as my current mini server is kind of exploding with the workload we put on it.

Ordered the new mouse today, sound really great and my last mighty mouse broke two weeks ago when it hit the floor, thanks to 9to5mac.com I didn't buy a knew one, I would bite my a$$ today!

I'm really liking the new

59

I'm really liking the new iMacs, particularly the 27" model, but I _hate_ 16:9. Plus, only two weeks ago I purchased a 28" 16:10 display, but it's only got a 1920x1200 resolution. The 27" iMac is still a real step up. Oh well.

Mac Mini Server is pointless for who it's targeted at. It's aimed at people who want a media server for their home, in which case they do not need Leopard. They might be better off if Apple offered a SuperDrive-less Mini with the same 1TB without the 10.6 Server for around the same price as their high-end Mini (perhaps a little more).

Unibody MacBook seemed a lot more compelling than the previous offer, until I found out it lacked FireWire and an audio input jack. What Apple seems to have forgotten about is that FireWire is not only for high-speed transfers, it is also useful when you need to boot from another computer. Also, lack of an audio-in jack is one (of two) reasons I refuse to buy a 13" MacBook Pro (and now the MacBook I guess). Finally, not that this is a huge complaint of mine, but it would seem a card reader would be more important in the MacBook than the MacBook Pro, considering consumers are the ones who are more likely to use a cheap digital camera and want to take pictures off it quickly and easily, whereas professionals want a choice of card readers (and thus want an ExpressCard slot).

The Mighty Mouse seems nice, but might be a bit awkward to use. I'm heading down to the Apple Store this afternoon to try it out.

Airport... doesn't even need mentioning. And while I preferred the old 6-button layout of the old remote, I can't argue with the added utility of the new one. The battery door just looks ick though. When's Apple going to move to internal batteries on their remotes? :P

In the second paragraph,

In the second paragraph, meant to say Snow Leopard Server, not Leopard, sorry.

Magic Mouse and Apple Remote

124

The Magic Mouse and the Apple Remote are the most exciting products announced today. Essentially because they are the only products I actually plan on buying.

Today's Apple hardware

713

Today's Apple hardware announcements are another blow Microsoft OS release this week. How can anyone be excited for a crappy looking PC loaded with Windows 7 (which is actually Windows 6.1 according the Microsoft's own internal developers).

OMG... Go away....

No Blu-ray burner option no go for me !

All in all, IMHO these are

85

All in all, IMHO these are impressive updates.
One notable nit pick.
The mouse . . . I would have gotten the magic one three weeks ago rather than the (ex mighty), however, I am used to three fingers left & right for forward and back on the MacBookPro track pad, and now the Magic Mouse takes two fingers left & right to do the same function? Honestly a free standing USB MacBook trackpad would be my preference.

I'm blown away!

58

Yes, no BlueRay (who cares? Who uses disks anymore?) but for the rest, WOW, just WOOOOWWWW!!!
Look at these beasts! The new iMacs blow any competition away like dust in the wind! I love that mouse, just love it! The new MacBook is stunning, the new Mini is soooo cute! And all of them come with speed, Snow Leopard and a good price!
Well done Apple, this a hell of an update, one that didn't let me an after taste of disappointment, like in the past. For those pick-nickers that don't see it, Apple has again set a new standard by which competition will be measured.
Until today, I was sure that Windows 7 was going to hit Apple hard. Now, I can see that in two days (when Window 7 officially launches), any PC maker will be worried about the incredible combination of hardware and software Apple are now offering.
It's been such a good day!

Looks like a very solid

47

Looks like a very solid product update across the line for the holidays... They're going to sell those new MacBooks like hotcakes.

I'd too had kinda hoped for BluRay on the Mini, but only because I want to use it as a media center to replace my DVD player. That's not really what Apple intends for the device so I get it not being offered. Does anyone make a Blu-Ray FW800 drive? regardless I'm uber tempted by the server edition... but which I could get it cheaper with SLS. I'll be waiting at least a few weeks in hopes that a much cheaper aTV comes out that will satisfy what I'm looking for however...

1080p

66

I love the imacs - they always look nice and it is nice to have them be 1080p.

And this is why Q3 looked the way it did!

Why in hell are people

310

Why in hell are people complaining about bluray? Physical media has been death for like a year. Damn end of line consumers need to realize this already.

disagree with above

67

i don't think the mac mini server is targeted at home users at all. i think it's a perfect Small Business solution for those who want to roll their own. it's got me very excited about that. it has the additional bonus of playing reverse proxy SSL server to an Xserve or Mac Pro running SLS in larger organizations. if you want to use the Mobile Access Service, you need two machines. -b-
