Would you rather have Boxee (Hulu, Netflix, etc.) or iTunes LP+i

I want both, I want to have all the apple stuff, but a plugin options for apps tore to add boxee, BBC iPlayer etc ... I want to be able to play my vast collection of movies in AVI format ... without having to reencode

Flame on you! :) Maybe in

Flame on you! :)
Maybe in Apple TV OS 3.0 we will have apps and so we can have all the previously hacked functions.

I'd rather have my money back

I'd rather have my money back so I can get a mac mini + hdmi adapter and do what I want.

I agree with this but Apple

I agree with this but Apple also needs to update Frontrow. Microsoft has had a much more compete home theater PC package for along time.

It is about time frontrow adds all the features of apple TV plus an integrated DVR. I am waiting to cancel cable when this happens. Live streaming of certain channels would be the icing on the cake.

Boxee is just ugly! If Apple

Boxee is just ugly!
If Apple incorporated some of the features of Boxee into the AppleTV UI then I'd welcome it, but the AppleTV UI is beautiful and simple. Boxee is bulky and irritating to use.

Isn't Hulu charging for content now?

Given the quality of the thing, Hulu should be free.

Apple TV App store FTW!

Apple TV App store FTW! That's what I want to see.

Boxee works like ass on the ATV. Completely unusable. ATV, on the other hand, is stuck with just iTunes content or content I've ripped to an iTunes format. And that sucks.

The box is capable of a lot if Apple opens it up.

Ideally I'd like to see something more like the guts of an iPod Touch, capable of playing 1080p (my 3Gs can do this). Flash-based. Inexpensive. Simple. But with an App store for other content outside of just Apple provided content. And games! Theoretically a lot of the games developed for iPhone could work on this type of box and output to an HDTV. There would need to be a gamepad of some sort. Perhaps an iPod Touch, or something akin to the WiiMote.

I think making an ATV that's essentially got the same guts as an iPhone is not only possible, but would be smart to take advantage of the developers who already develop for the App store. It should be simple for them to make games and Apps that work on both. At the very least they could utilize their programming knowledge to work on both as they would be similar.

F boxee, give me Plex.

F boxee, give me Plex.

boxee is just really buggy

910

boxee is just really buggy and hulu hardly works which was my main reason... i dont mind encoding movies to mp4 with handbrake only takes 15-20 minutes thanks to core i7... initially it was good but after that whole hulu thing i just said screw it and got playon for my ps3 thats works fine and plays avi if i really want avi.

Atv is crap. If you have lots

88

Atv is crap. If you have lots of content it's a pain to browse. Threre's really not a lot you can do with it, it's a frigging over priced iPod. LP is interesting but you have to pay for it and it's not enough of a fearur to get me to buy.

Boxee, Plex, is amazing. It works better from the couch. If you have a lot of content it's not a problem. You can browse through your movies and music by covers in a nice grid, not like cover flow which is useless when you hav hundreds of things to go through. And you get access to some awesome content on plex boxee. I watched old GI Joe cartoons through the joost app. it was sweet!

ATV os needs work.

Even though you didn't ask...

I agree with the comment about the mac mini. It does everything.

Mac Mini with Plex does the

Mac Mini with Plex does the job for me - couldn't ask for more really. The plug-in's are great.

Hell, just Genius Mixes

Hell, just Genius Mixes support would be nice.

I just want Hulu and/or a web

I just want Hulu and/or a web browser.

Can't stand Boxee. Who cares what Avner is watching right now. I don't!

It should act like an iPod touch

67

The apple tv should act like an iPod touch. Games may be tough without a better remote but thousands of those other apps would work fine. I see a wide screen tv being just like a touch in permanent landscape mode.

Heck someone should even make an iPod simulator for OSX to run these little apps on your desktop or laptop.

Apple has the perfect app store in place and they have hardware for your desk, lap, hand, and couch that could all run these great little apps but they are not taking advantage of this yet?

just give me content legally

77

that's all i'm asking for.

give me some good reason to buy content on a nice device. the rest is just a "nice to have".

Seriously, shouldn't Apple throw its weight around to strike deals??

You guys are a bunch of dorks... ATV Flash is the way to go

25

Transform that Apple TV into a lightweight Mac (install Firefox/Safari/Google Earth) by installing the easiest to install hack that includes everything. It's called ATV Flash. No, I don't work for them but I was surprised to be able to surf the web with a regular web browser from the couch with a wireless keyboard/mouse. So a $140 Apple TV turns into a lightweight Mac with ATV Flash.... how much more do you want to spend on a Mac mini, $500? Forget it. I'm perfectly happy watching divx/wmp/whatever files on the Apple TV with this freak'in hack.

It allows you to plug in an external drive for more movie storage....I mean, dang.....for this price, you can't go wrong...
