Absolutely - the Apple photo for the event even shows a picture of a guy jumping off a rock - hiking with his GPS iPod.
This idea is gaining steam, and it all fits together mentioned everywhere: iPod GPS, Apple GPS, etc.

I'd like to see iTunes 8 include some manual app support like you can do with music and videos, just drag the app to the iphone and it's installed, or go to the dropdown from the iphone and delete.

new ipods?
I think the iPod Classic will taken off the market with a new 32GB and 64GB iPod Touch taking its place and the price will be dropped to 199.99 for the 32GB and a 299.99 for the 64GB option making it the same price as the iPhone but for people who need more space than the 16 available on the iPhone. I also think the nano will be bumped up to 8GB and 16GB sizes and be priced at 99.99 and 149.99 respectfully. The iPod Shuffle should be bumped up to 2GB and 4GB for 49.99 and 79.99 but i doubt that will happen. If this does happen it would throw the Zune and other MP3 players for a whirl causing another upsurge of iPods in the market and securing it at the top of the market.
