I think the genius of Colbert is that he is either sarcastic or genuine depending on your point of view. I think. Maybe I don't understand the other point of view.
Stephen Colbert is a great actor. I am unsure of his personal political views, he is probably more liberal leaning. The whole Right-Wing act is just that. With that said - who cares what his personal views are.
Proposition 8 is just stupid, plain and simple. And I say that as a conservative. The government has no right to tell people who they can and can not marry. If two men or two woman or a man and a woman want to marry and live their lives - then they should be allowed to. This is a free country and it should stay that way. It's called the seperation of church and state.
I don't care if your religion forbids it. Your religion doesn't run this country.
With that all said. I think we should remove "marriage" from the law. Call it "civil union" and the law should provide provisions pertaining to Taxes and Benefits ONLY! If I want to claim a dependant and have him or her share my benefits from work and joint file income taxes than SO BE IT. It should have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH MARRIAGE! If you want to get Married, you get a minister, priest or Rabbi. A lot of religions allow gay marriage now. But according to the government, all that should be considered is what you do with your taxes and benefits.

While it's true that he has an entire team of writers and fact checkers - he is also the head writer and OK's everything. He is very involved in the writing that goes into his show. And actually, he is a very intelligent person. But, the Colbert Report is all acting.

What any two consulting adults do in the privacy of their bedroom is their business, not yours or the government's. I agree 100% with the above comments about marriage being a religious rite from your church, and civil union a government thing. Take away the religious prohibition of same sex marriage and you have no tenable position to say same sex partnerships should not be allowed.

If you don't like gay men or lesbian women getting married and having all sorts of hot, steamy gay sex - then go move out to Utah in the middle of nowhere.
Personally, I think gay man sex is disgusting. I'm straight and I am happily married. Doesn't mean I don't get a few laughs at the firehouse when one of the guys throws in a lesbian porno into the DVD player.

I see Stephen as both an amazing actor and a genius. But he does also have amazing writers who help make him look extremely smart! But when he does interviews he comes up with a lot of that material on-the-fly. Also in character, he acts like an idiot pundit, but in real life he is the sweetest guy and is extremely liberal.
I don't want to think about it because it's not really important to me whether gays get married or not or if they call it gay marriage or civil unions. I work closely with two gay dudes and a lesbian and I don't tell them about my sex life and they don't tell me about theirs.
I kind of hope that Prop. 8 loses so we can think about something that really matters for a change.
One thing I have found in my discussion on this issue is that names matter. Civil union is not an acceptable title to gays. They want it to be called marriage and marriage is not an acceptable title to those opposing gay marriage. It's kinda stupid to me. It's not really about rights but about what you call those rights.
Actually, it's not just about a name. If "civil union" actually provided 100% of the same rights and benefits that "marriage" did under state, inter-state, and federal laws, then we gays would not have an issue with what it was called. Unfortunately, civil union doesn't. Civil partners in one state do not have rights of inheritance, visitation, etc in states other than their own, a consideration if the partners travel or own property outside their own state. Civil unions are not granted reduced tax benefits by the IRS. Marriages are. You can't call civil union and marriage the same thing until they really are the same thing, in every location and in every way. Anything but that is discrimination and should be intolerable to every one. Gay marriage first, what's next, outlawing interracial marriages...?

Why should Apple get involved? Because a significant number of its employees are gay/lesbian, and Apple is showing support for its "family." Apple is not the only major corporation/company in California supporting NO on 8; a large biotech firm in San Diego just issued a plea to the community to vote no on 8. The reason? Many of its employees are gay, and the company fears that if California becomes unfriendly to its gay employees, these employees will leave the company and go work for a major competitor in Boston, where they will be treated better by the community. California (and its big companies) can't afford the potential brain drain driving gays out of the state will cause. And the irony of all this is that there is no doubt that a substantial portion of the production crew of Colbert's show, including the comedy writers are gay. The entertainment industry would be far less entertaining without the talents of its gay members.
As far as being natural or not, how the frack do you know? Tell that it's not natural to be homosexual to all the other species of animals (whales, dolphins, dogs, birds, etc) that practice homosexual. Obviously you are just ignorant and fear what you don't understand.
Actually gay and lesbian practices are natural - they are a result of sexual urges - how much more natural can you get? Not only that, there have been several instances of homosexuality in the animal kingdom too. Is that also "not natural?"

This new parking lot will be a great improvement to the parking-ability for Apple employees. Furthermore, this news is completely irrelevant to a web site concerned with Apple technology and software.
