I'm a fan of the glossy screen as I can't see anything on my matte Powerbook outside, but my wife's MBP is amazingly clear in sun. Also, my iMac is SO clear when sun shines in behind me.
But I have no doubt that this poll will be 99% Matte to 1% Glossy as those anti-gloss people really love to complain a lot.
I'm sat in front of my new MBP and have not got a problem with gloss whatsoever. I had my doubts initially and before, with my 17" MBP I was cursing Apple for not giving you the option when they released the Unibody's, but I went down to the 'Store to check them out and was totally convinced. I have watched movies on it, done some freelance even tried to get myself into a position where the glare would be annoying, but nope folks it's all good! Just don't be silly and have your desk lamp shining right on to the screen! :)
in a way most of us are windows converts or windows-challenged. If you have never used a windows pc, you are truly ignorant and not in knowledge of HOW nice your mac actually is =)
50/50 - That's a big shock! Yeah you can't see very well outside, but you dont have to clean the screen every morning! I work for a premium reseller and OMG they are annoying.
Im thinking of rushing in to work and picking up a 23" cause they are still matte. I knew the 24" iMac was a bad thing to pass up:(
im curious of how many people who voted matte have actually sat down and used a NEW glossy screen. My friend, who works in our IT department, was given an aluminum MBP to work on with a glossy screen. he had been working on it for several months be for i noticed and commented on how i wish i would have gotten a glossy screen on my MBP. He tried to tell me that his wasn't glossy because he "F**king hates glossy screens" i had to go get mine so he could compare and sure enough, his was glossy and he hasn't said a negative word towards the new glossy screens again.
Give people the choice. The colour reproduction on a glossy screen in far from perfect, and in a fairly dark room I'd prefer matte. Interestingly, I find that glossy screens are actually much better in direct light, because they don't desaturate random areas of the screen.
Matte is a must have in the graphics/motion graphics world. If you get your colors incorrect because the glossy decided to bump up the brightness of a particular color or all colors... then you're screwed. End of story. We always have to make sure are colors match up correctly... Don't even ask about color calibration on a glossy screen :(

I've been reading about all the controversy over the glossy screens on the new MBP's and just got one last weekend. Honestly, I didn't even notice any glare or reflections - in fact, I even forgot they were controversial until I started reading the Mac sites again. The new glossy MBP screens look GREAT - and this is coming from someone who stares at 3 matte cinema displays for 10+ hours a day.
As far as all the people complaining about a lack of choice, well ok, it would be nice if Apple had given us the option. But then again, on the PC side, just about all laptops have glossy screens, it's not really a big deal.

I like glossy, but...
I could care less for how strong the glare is on the unibody MacBooks. I liked the gloss on the previous MacBooks/Pros.

It is a very good gloss
I normally always prefer matte as I had to darken the room when working on my Sony Vaio as the glare was so bad and I would suffer from migraines.
However, I have not noticed any glare since switching to the new Macbook Pro as the screen is so bright.
I'm glad they did away with the matte version or I would have chosen that by default and lost out.
