...during the install process. When I restarted my phone, I had apparently moved to Denmark. Had to reset the language. Other than that, plus some icon rearrangement (due to the new Voice Memo icon) everything went smooth - took about 15 min on a cable broadband connection.
If i purchase an iPhone with no contract ($799 for 32GB) it will still be locked to AT&T ? There's any possibility to legally unlock it (even if i have to pay an extra fee)?
It won't be locked to AT&T, but T Mobile is your only other option. (in the US). T Mobile doesn't support the iPhone on their network, but they don't forbid you from using it. Some features may not work also on T Mobile.
The only thing is T-mobile 3g is not supported on iphone. as far as support for the iphone goes. i unlocked my 2g for my brother since hes on tmobile. ill tell you what im jealous of the "Support" he gets. He pays way less than i do and they go out of their way for iphone customers.
This is false. It will still be locked to AT&T. It's not like we have a separate stock of iPhones in the back of our stores for people who are buying them at the no commit price.
Um, no it wont. iPhones can be unlocked to work on T-Mobile. You can do this without signing an AT&T contract if you want to pay a much heftier, unsubsidized price. No contractual obligations, feel free to unlock. No need for separate stock as they're the same phone, just with or without a commitment.

Same error here. If I click onto another section in iTunes and back to the iPhone it seems to try again - but still no luck after few tries.
I guess Apple's systems are overloaded... Aggravating as the actual update seems to have been completed - its just dying on some Appleesque authorisation check :-/
strangely, all my cracked apps, which needed a jailbreak to work......work. No jailbreak required fro cracked apps? Did Apple just give up with preventing piracy?
After running the update, when restarting and trying to connect to the iTunes Store, i received a "Network Request Timeout" Error and my phone is now stuck in emergency mode. I have an internet connection and can open other web pages but in iTunes for some reason, I keep getting this error from iTunes. BRICK!!!
Anyone else???
Remember last year? Same thing happened. Millions of phones hitting the activation servers at once, everything crashed, blah, blah..... Did we not think this was going to happen again?
If it is activation, it's an AT&T thing, not an Apple thing. Either way, just expect it. No company in their right mind is going to upgrade servers to accommodate hundreds of thousands of simultaneous requests for one or two days a year. Not good business sense.

ERROR
I received an iTunes error after updating and have been unable to use the phone.
It reads as follows:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. an unkown error occurred (-4).
there was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."
Thanks Apple.
Grrrrrrrr
SAME issue here:

I think that means, "We didn't provide enough servers to actually reactivate your phone." LAME! LAME! LAME!

I'm not sure the (-4) error is related to activation. I have a 1st gen iPod touch, and get the same error. Surely, the touch doesn't need activation?
