Did anyone else get the new purple restore screen when updating?
We are probably falling into a trap but the purple kinda freaked us out...any one else? Purple Rain build? As a few commenters pointed out, there is now a Store option in Settings. Also, you now have two more pages of Apps screens available (now 11) which allows 180 Apps total.
Funky Apple. Funky.

Thats weird
I think it was meant to be black and they didn't make it purple on purpose, look at the bottom right with the "i", the purple is completely surrounding it. O well, is your phone still working fine?
After update on iphone 3G and 1.Gen the iPhone´s works fine and i had the purple restorescreen
Since some upgraded what's new about it???
Is it snappier? Did it fix any bugs?
It's MUCH snappier, at least on my 3G device!
I heard something about the a "Store" option in settings?? Can you check it out.
Yep it's a store option but it's nothing there, just says store
It appears to have been a SIM card not being detected or something along that line. Since every phone (at least on ATT" will default into an "Emergency 911 or 811" unit when a SIM is not in place, the "Slide for Emergency" on the unlock screen seems to support that function. The purple may be Apples way of letting you know that the phone system is only going to accept Emergency Calls.
Whats the difference between At&t 3.1 and At&t 3.5?
But how about totally black macbooks? THAT would look cool, like these: http://www.net-dot.com/my%20pictures2/my%20pictures2/LapTop%20Black%20Ma...
I guess it just can't load the background (globe) image for some reason?
I got this before my battery died on the weekend. It was exactly same screen with same emergency text but not in purple
i haven't updated anything yet. i am on 2.1 firmware
LOL April Fools!
on 1.1.4 firmware purple screen was problem on for every iphone that wasn't registered as beta tester and instaled cracked ersion of BETA firmware.. maybe its same thing here ?
I think U guys did a week job at modifying the image ... U could have modify the i from the info button :P
I got it. But the background was black and not purple. Once I connected the phone to my MBP, all was good within seconds.
BTW, I did not get it while updating. It just occurred out of the blue.
i got black when i updated to the new FW and purple when i later restored to the new FW
The screen only appears on an iPhone that has failed a restore/update AND it's running a beta version of the software. Specifically, you can get this to occur if you attempt to restore to an earlier version of the firmware (e.g. From Beta 3.0 to 2.2.1) or if the iTunes activation process cannot verify that you're a registered developer. It is designed to inform Apple that your phone isn't registered as part of the developer program and that you're using it illegally.
There are only two fixes for this:
1 - Make sure you are fully registered with the developer program (you may have to contact Apple directly) and that you're only restoring your device with the same version or newer.
2 - If you're not a registered developer you'll have to pay to become one or wait until 3.0 goes public and then update your phone.
If you take your phone to an Apple store (or call AppleCare) and it has a purple restore screen, they will treat is as if you hacked the phone and will not service it for you. Believe me, I know.
Well, I am a registered iPhone Developer and have no Jailbroken iPhone 3G and iTouch 1 Gen. iPhone updated fine (no purple screen). iTouch failed first time, gave error message (1604 I believe) 4-5 times until it finally restored and it showed the purple screen. Now seems to be OK
it fixed stability problems, load time and A2DP works smoother now
salu2
I updated my iPod Touch today from 2.2 to the new beta (I am a registered developer so there should be no problems), and I got the purple screen, but all seems to be fine. I updated and restored and it seems to be running okay. Slower than 2.2 but its a beta so that's normal.
My SIM is PIN-locked, so I had to insert that code before iTunes could activate it. Behind the "insert the correct pin" message, the screen was purple :)
Of course, it disappeared just after correctly activating it.

11 pages of apps for 180 total
I got the same thing. now I;ve gone ahead and upgraded n restored multiple times from 3.0 and 2.2.1. I got that screen everytime and I believe that it is normal. I agree with some other people stating that it could be there for the emergency call only aspect. The only problem that i noticed was having a hard time syncing my iphone. Most of the time I would only have half my music and no videos meanwhile it shows that Im still using all the same...weird huh...but i wound up syncing everything slowly and it works fine now. Something else i noticed is that should you try and downgrade back to 2.2.1 your gonna have horrible internet service and I believe this is due to the modem or baseband update that I hear cannot be fixed.
