CES: Video - how students may use an Apple tablet
This video - set to debut at CES - has been created by Coursesmart, a joint venture of five textbook publishers. It shows how students might use tablet-based textbooks. It is based on their own renderings, not specific applications being developed with Apple.

Why would they explicitly say this has nothing to do with Apple unless it secretly does have something to do with it. The whole interface is super Apple-esque. Or is it just me?
As a college student, I approve of this vid.
But I think that the legit application of this concept would be much prettier & more functional.
I dont like that books expire though. I use books from past semesters for references & facts in current classes... and not just the things I would "take notes" of on here.
But Pandora must be able to run in background. Must. :)

... this would never have survived 5 minutes with Steve Jobs. Boring. Uncreative. Far from being a killer application or a new approach to learning. Where is the integration of social media? How do I aks fellow students if I don't get something? Where are the updates to the books? Even the finger moves too slow to stop SJ from shouting. It's obvious that this has been conceived by the publishing industry. And it shows exactly why this industry has a big problem. Fortunately it's one Apple will solve ... hopefully.

Dutch professor trying to give a class in English?
The problem that needs to be addressed is the price of electronic downloads. For example, that biology book is $93.33 through Coursesmart. However through my bookstore it is $113 new or $113 used through amazon. The $20 difference doesn't make it worth it. They need to be more competitive on the price especially since the downloads are only good for a year. If they want to charge that much, hopefully someone will crack them so we can rip off the publishing companies for a change.
