Bill Gates talks emotionally about his last visit with Steve Jobs [Video]

We’ve heard Bill Gates talk about his last, emotional meeting with Steve Jobs before. First in the Walter Isaacson Steve Jobs bio and then again in a video interview with ABC, but last night Gates once again discussed the final meeting in an interview with 60 Minutes (above). Gates talks about Steve’s sense of design despite very limited engineering background, his “intuitive sense for marketing that was amazing,” and his emotional last meeting where the two discussed a number of topics including products, family, and the yacht Steve was having a built at the time.

“He showed me the boat he was working on and talked about how he’s looking forward to being on it,” Gates told 60 Minutes, “even though we both knew there was a good chance that wouldn’t happen.”

Steve Jobs’ yacht spotted in the Canary Islands en route to US

After a small dispute with French designer Philippe Starck over an unpaid 3 million euro bill, we heard last month that the Jobs’ family yacht was free to set sail after Steve Jobs’ estate paid Starck to free the ship from impound at a port in Amsterdam. A reader sent an image today of the yacht sailing in the Atlantic Ocean close to Tenerife in the Canary Islands. It was most likely en route to its final home somewhere in the United States.

Last week, local publication ciaotenerife.it confirmed the ship was for a time docked in the harbor of Los Llano.

Thanks, Victor and Manuel!

Steve Jobs yacht impounded over unpaid 3 million euro bill to designer Philippe Starck

Steve Jobs YachtReuters reported today that the yacht Steve Jobs commissioned before his passing has been impounded in Amsterdam over a payment dispute with its designer, Phillippe Starck. Starck’s lawyers are apparently seeking an unpaid 3 million euros of the 9 million euro he was supposed to receive for his work:

The yacht was impounded on Wednesday evening, the lawyer said, and will remain in Amsterdam port pending payment by lawyers representing Jobs’ estate.

“The project has been going since 2007 and there had been a lot of detailed talk between Jobs and Starck,” Roelant Klaassen, a lawyer representing Ubik, said.

“These guys trusted each other, so there wasn’t a very detailed contract,” he said.

Associated Press said local Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad reported today that the boat, worth 105 million euro, will not leave the harbor it has been docked in since Dec. 8 until the dispute is resolved.
