AT&T sues Verizon over "There's a Map for That" campaign

AT&T is suing Verizon because it believes the "There's a Map for That" advertising is misleading. AT&T contend that the maps shown confuse the customer into believing there is no coverage at all in the white spots on AT&T's map when in fact there is either EDGE or GPRS service in a lot of those areas.
Maybe those attorney fees would be better spent on adding towers/capacity and working on that map, AT&T?
Well, obviously AT&T has lawyers that have studied this issue and are confident that they'll win. They know that Verizon has a killer legal team - they wouldn't go after them unless they have high confidence in victory. After all, the BAD publicity due to LOSING this suit would be severe.
I bet Verizon quietly concedes the point, drops the campaign, and brings back the geek boy.
We all know that AT&T service is now on a plummet but we also need to settle the facts first and see the side of AT&.
Updates: ATT had recently released a statement why they are suing Verizon. May the "there's a misinterpretaion for that that” image help you to understand better why AT&T is having a boiling-point over the matter.
Woh, I didn't know you mess with fonts. I see now that the comment box as these tools - this is a new addition, right? I don't think I like this: people are going to get obnoxious with this real fast. Your red font is fine though ;-)
Anyway about the news article: I think that it is somewhat visually misleading, but since there is a clear heading under the map that says, "AT&T 3G Coverage": they're only telling the truth, right?
...they're not denying there is no 3G in those areas? I thought they were going to claim the map that was displayed is old and that there was 3G there.
Doesn't the ad clearly state that it's about 3G coverage? So "believing there is no coverage at all" is a complete BS in my eyes... Is AT&T trying to join the "If you can't compete, sue them!" club?
I live in one of the richest communities in Rhode Island.
This weekend I was at the town shopping center waiting for a haircut. Because I was runnign late I took out my iPhone to send a text to my girlfriend.
I had no signal.
I then left the store I was in and headed out to the parking lot. Still no signal.
And then I looked up and noticed that I was LITERALLY one of about a dozen people (mostly 40+ year old men) wandering the parking lot with iphones in their hands trying to find a signal like some country hayseed trying to find water with a divining rod.
One of the richest communities in Rhode Island. Mostly made up of doctors, lawyers and corporate CEO's and at&t can't even get coverage in the fu**ing center of the place?
Interesting how, knowing that apple customers tend to be liberal, verizon makes their map red and at&t blue, recapitulating the red vs blue conservative vs liberal map. Knowing they aren't going to convince the people who love apple, they are going after the more conservative majority - in this case late adopters, subtly telling them that good republicans don't buy an iphone, no matter how useful it is. iphones are for blue liberals on the coasts, just look at this map. The overt message is "iphones don't get good reception." The underlying message: buy an iphone and you might as well say you support gay marriage.
Hmm, the slogan it self is already very, very bad!! "there's a map for that" is curiously close to Apple/AT&T's "there's an app for that" Apple/AT&T could sue Verizon Wireless for that alone!
The woman who sued McDonald's over the coffee incident had more of a case than ATT in this suit. What part of saying 5 times "3G coverage" in the ad does ATT not hear? I hope they are ordered to pay Verizon's legal fees after their suit gets laughingly thrown out of court.

Dear AT&T
Truth hurts, eh?
Spend the money you are using to sue Verizon on expanding your 3G service.
Yours,
Every iPhone user EVAR.

ATT has no arguement.
ATT has no arguement. Verizon is specifically talking about 3G, not GPRS or EDGE. Sorry, ATT, you lose.

Get lost you snob. Nobody cares about your lack of service in Rhode Island, the smallest, most unimportant state in the US.
How's it feel to want what

This is one the the most retarded things I've heard in a real long time.
Or, you know, Verizon's
Or, you know, Verizon's corporate branding has been red forever and AT&T's has been blue forever...
Or
It's simply the color of their logos. I believe you're over thinking this.
