Apple in talks with Qualcomm for iPhone chips
Qualcomm Inc., the world’s biggest maker of handset chips, is in talks to supply products for use in Apple Inc.’s iPhone, Chief Executive Officer Paul Jacobs said. “We continue to discuss it, but haven’t made it yet,” Jacobs said in a Bloomberg Television interview in Hong Kong today. “Hopefully, in the future, we will have the opportunity.”
We don't know about you, but this has Verizon Worldmode written all over it to us.
Even though they are made for Smartbooks, we'd be interested to see if Apple could squeeze a EVDO/HSPA Gobi chipset into an iPhone. Qualcomm got one into an OQO and that new Barnes and Noble E-Book reader, it doesn't seem to be a stretch to see that in an iPhone.
As for the need to wait for the future, Blackberry Worldmode phones have existed for years, they wouldn't need to wait to long to get a Worldmode iPhone going.
We're pretty sure Apple doesn't need any of those new ARM Snapdragon chips that Qualcomm sells to phone manufacturers and it isn't like Qualcomm makes Flash. What else could it be?

hope so but don't be too optimistic ;)
This is why I got the Droid on a 1 year contract...VZW iPhone is happening! YEAH!!!
... it won't happen now as he's blabbed about it! Steve will be on the phone shouting at him as I type ... LOL!
Yeah it seems like VZW will have an iPhoned 3rd quarter 2010 according to most rumors, but now that I'm used to the droid I don't know that I'm going to upgrade. iMusic alone makes it worth it as I can download free music over 3G wherever I am, which Apple/Att will never approve. I guess when it comes down to it, the keyboard doesn't matter to me, the multi-running aps don't matter...what makes this better than my beloved iPhone is the beautiful screen and the freedom of app developers. I never thought I'd like the droid this much!
