In mobile games, iPhone shows us the money

iPhone isn’t just playing games, it’s the smartphone for making money, at least that’s how it looks when you ponder PopCap’s boss, Dave Roberts, who points out, “I continue to be amazed at how much business we do on the iPhone.”

According to Roberts, 25 percent of the games publisher’s business is now in the mobile sector, “iPhone has been huge for us,” he said.

For example, PopCap’s Plant Vs. Zombies title grossed a hefty million dollars in nine days.

Social gaming is also kicking in, 15 percent of revenue comes from Facebook titles — Bejeweled, for example, has 36 million Facebook users.

Is the developer building titles for Android? Sure, but remarks, “We are certainly working on Android stuff. It is not quite as clean of an ecosystem as the iPhone is.”
