Samsung releases new set of ads taking jabs at the iPhone 6’s battery, screen, and more

Samsung was already taking shots at the iPhone 6 this morning with some new ads, but the Android handset maker has gone even further by releasing a set of new videos on YouTube today mocking everything from the iPhone 6 livestream problems to the device’s hardware (via Engadget). The ads are part of the “Note the Difference” campaign, and these specific videos belong to a playlist called “It Doesn’t Take a Genius.”

The ads feature two guys in blue shirts—the titular Apple Store “Geniuses”—discussing the upcoming device’s features (and lack of a stylus) and the companion Apple Watch. Each ends with a promotion for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 smartphone. You can check out all six ads in the playlist below:

    Poor Samsung. Scared to death.

    • joshoa123 - 10 years ago

So right. It’s laughable they make fun of a problem with the streaming the event that is a direct cause of so many people tuning in. Only further proving the point Apple is in a strong position here to steal a lot of business from them.

      • Justin Tyler Moore - 10 years ago

I agree with you 100%. Although it wasn’t related to millions of people tuning in. Rather bad javascript. But either way, yeah. They should advertise their products instead of giving any ad money to a competitor, which ultimately is what these ads do.

      • WaveMedia (@WaveMedia) - 10 years ago

It reminds me of their line ads. Mocking people who go out of their way to line up for a product. They’d KILL for that kind of brand loyalty as would any other company on the planet.

      • I remember those ads. I also thought of them as saying: “There’s no need in lining up for this phone, because no one wants it.”

      • mvasquez377 - 9 years ago

Its funny, every iphone user that I have allowed to use my samsung has switched. Tell me… what do you think makes iPhone a superior product? Personally I think the only thing they have going for themselves is blind loyalty.

  2. kplayaja - 10 years ago

    those were pretty bad.

    • ifunography - 10 years ago

They were, in fact, incredibly dreadful and nothing less than what you’ve come to expect from them.

Just wait for round 2 of this dismal campaign to continue next Friday.

  3. Thelonious Mac - 10 years ago

The problem with these ads is that I interpret the guys as working for Samsung.

    • sesaliye - 10 years ago

Ad #7: Watch Samsung disappear to oblivion.
Because that’s what going to happen with these new iPhones. Throwing the kitchen sink isn’t going to stop Apple momentum.

      • South Jersey Droid - 10 years ago

Apple is doomed because Steve Jobs said no one would ever want a big phone… So you are all now saying Jobs was an idiot who knew nothing? All Apple is doing with these phones is copying Samsung. And they are doing a really poor job of it.

Steve Jobs is an idiot, and you will be proving that when you buy this phone. Oh, and that hideously metro looking watch

      • Joe - 10 years ago

@SouthJerseyDroid – if you know anything about Steve Jobs and Apple than you would know that when Steve said that Apple WASN’T going to do something…….that meant that they WERE going to do it!

Example: Steve says no one wants to have videos on an iPod – iPod Video gets released

Steve says no one wants a 7″ tablet because it’s too small – iPad Mini at 7.9″

Steve says no one wants a bigger phone – iPhone 6 and 6+.

        But nice try anyway bro.

      • vasilios300 - 10 years ago

@SouthJerseyDroid I almost, no I completely feel embarrassed for you. You lack of knowledge and facts are so completely wrong it’s almost comical. Stick with Droid bro hahaha yikes…

  4. Daniel L. Lau - 10 years ago

Well, I guess it just shows you how much Samsung is worried about the iPhone 6 that they would implement a fast response advertising unit. I really liked some of the stories on other websites that compared Apple’s roll out with Samsung’s roll out from last week, going as far as to say that Samsung’s presentation was so poorly done as to further help Apple distance itself.

    • Their presentations suck. I really have not seen better presentations than Apple does and I’ve seen lots of them.

    • mochachaiguy - 10 years ago

Agreed. The Samsung presentation was awkward, stilted and forced. Apple has very polished presenters who seemed VERY at home on the stage and genuinely excited about the product/features they were presenting. Night and day.

      • Yeah. I took a look at their this year’s presentation and it was the same sh*t at last year. Like almost anyone clapping, people just like yawning, the presenters were boring. Showing icons on the phone? No one can see that, not even in the first row. Their presentation was boring as always. What’s the most funny thing is, they always have to do it at that even in Spain because there would be literally no one if they did it on their own. I see shamesung crashing in 1 – 2 years.

    • ɯıʞǝ (@ekim1406) - 10 years ago

sounds like an interesting article. do u happen to remember where u saw it?

  5. If Samsung is so great why are they trying to convince everyone else? to each there own.

  6. Daniel Dem - 10 years ago

Mocking apple iPhone, yet using apple macbook. How stupid!

  7. O Samsung, the thing you do to get people to look at your phones but yet they talk about apple devices more.

  8. Ben Ford - 10 years ago

I would rather have all the above than the “notorious” Android Samsung ‘LAGS’ – been there – done that – and colors so over saturated that it feel like a perpetual “Alice in Wonderland” color scheme. They must have been up late working on these…

    • millser - 10 years ago

As someone who has used both Apple products and Samsung products, this lag issue is rubbish. The idea of Android phones is customisation. The stock S5 is bloaty and filled with stuff I never use. Forget the warrenty, insure the phone and enjoy the one thing that I promise not even the iPhone 8 will have; the freedom to dump the entire software package that comes the S5 and build your own phone sans bloatware that NEVER lags and encourages you to learn about how the device works and how to get the most from it. I know this scares Apple users. They need iOS to hold their hand as they walk through the claustrophobic world of Steve Jobs. Jail breaking dos’nt help. You’re still there. That’s why I (we) gave up with the last iPhone and have no interest in this catch up.

      • iSRS - 10 years ago

You are clearly not Apple’s target, and that is fine. But you miss the point. Most of the iOS and Mac customers don’t want to have do be forced to root and learn the intricacies of their devices. they want a device to do what it does do extremely well right out of the box. As a matter of fact, and I realize that the sheer number of Mac/iOS only people in my circle is higher than normal, but is also includes a lot of technology bases jobs. We don’t want to fiddle with everything. And Apple does that better than anyone.

  9. rmnh - 10 years ago

    These are so clever. :’)

  10. George Pollen - 10 years ago

    A stupid ad from a 32-bit company.
White guys are dumb is the message I got.

  11. Whoda (@Whodakat) - 10 years ago

Can you imagine if Apple made these commercials? The internet would be in uproar.

    • sesaliye - 10 years ago

Jealousy is the tribute mediocrity pays to genius.
Noticed Apple isn’t as obsess about what Samsung does.

      • South Jersey Droid - 10 years ago

Apple just copied everything from Samsung! And they did a suck ass job at it. If you are buying this phone, you are essentially telling everyone that Steve Jobs was a big lying idiiot

      • paulywalnuts23 - 10 years ago

Stop trolling South Jersey Droid. If you are going to troll at least make some good points…

      • vasilios300 - 10 years ago

This south jersey droid fool is an idiot. You clearly know NOTHING about technology. You should be thanking Apple. Your phone is absolutely garbage. It’s no secret. Moron…

  12. I will get a 6+
That being said… they were kinda right in a couple of things…. Streaming was HORRIBLE on the Apple TV. At first it had a Japanese voice over, then it would cut to another place/time.

the screen is finally bigger but they sort of miss the mark on a couple of things….

Android doesn’t get that the problem is not the hardware but the software… android is just ugly and boring. The lack of hardware progress from Apple is not enough to push anyone away when the most important thing is the software.

    • ☯ haitao (@haitaoxia) - 10 years ago

      that was Chinese, not Japanese

    • mochachaiguy - 10 years ago

Android is also as convoluted as fcuk. I can’t be bothered trying to troubleshoot the various HTC & Samsung phones my GF has had… mysterious shutoffs, battery drain issues from runaway processes…sheesh, what a rats nest.

  13. Joe Velez (@joe_velez) - 10 years ago

Worst Ads ever; looks like a desperate company trying to show their products are better than competition, in this case Apple. #applekiller #samsunglost

  14. regnroll - 10 years ago

These were all really bad….What more can one say?

  15. paul55br - 10 years ago

    One word: Pathetic.

  16. accdla - 10 years ago

You know its a fail when you laugh at it instead of with it.

  17. liquidwolverine1 - 10 years ago

Hard to watch…..Samsung shows us time and time again, that they really don’t understand Americans in their commercials.

  18. iSRS - 10 years ago

Umm, didn’t Samsung release a watch last year? And a second this year? Seems that those devices were so forgettable that even they forgot about them. How else do you explain the watch one?

  19. hisdudenessman - 10 years ago

This really makes me hate these asshole douche bags even more. What a dick move Samsung, man.

  20. rettun1 - 10 years ago

Reminds me of those horrid ads from Microsoft about the 5s, with the 3 people in the board room just doing bad joke after bad joke… *shivers*

  21. Scott Hilt (@scotthilt) - 10 years ago

Do these type of ads actually work? I don’t think they do. Even the anti-Android commercials from Apple I don’t think work. I’m an Apple user through and through. I love my mac, iPhone, iPad & Apple TV and no ad is going to get me to switch. I’m already 100% invested in the Apple Ecosystem, but that’s not why I stay with Apple. I stay with Apple because I genuinely love Apple products and I think Android users are the same way. No ad is going to get them to switch. They like what they like for certain reason and thats that. Instead of making ads that bash each other, I think they should focus their ads should play to their strengths. Don’t even
acknowledge the competition. Just my two cents.

    • I don’t think these ads are for the informed or happy… I think they’re for the people who love to switch up new phones. And those people WILL eye up the iPhone 6 regardless of how invested they seem in the product they have. Personally, I stay on the fence and have both platforms. I am a designer and love to see what’s happening on both leading platforms. I even take an interest in Windows on phones!

  22. Gursehaj Singh - 10 years ago

    Scared as hell …
this is what SAMSUNG IS !!!!!

  23. Shawn McBee - 10 years ago

These are so desperate and sad. The only ad I’ve seen lately that took a shot at Apple and was pretty good was a Motorola ad for their windows phone that was Cortana and Siri having a conversation… NOT the ones where some dude is asking Cortana to do things that Siri can totally do and Siri going “I can’t do that.” That one is stupid. The one I’m talking about is essentially one of the old “I’m a Mac” ads, but with Siri and Cortana, and the roles flipped. It was really quite clever.

  24. Thotler/Ty (@Tymanbrew) - 10 years ago

I will be getting a 6+ but most of these made me laugh, streaming was horrible, we should have had a bigger screen sooner and the best of all was them showcasing apple pushing the watch on us when all we wanted was a better iphone

  25. scumbolt2014 - 10 years ago

Samsunk causes aids. Ask herb the troll, he gave it to them.

  26. sindri2412 - 10 years ago

the difference between apple and samsung is that apple never mention samsung in their videos, but then again samsung have always been inferior like pepsi…

  27. Oh God, these are absolutely horrendous lol. I don’t think Samsung HAVE to scrape the bottom of the barrel for ad agencies or campaigns … so why do they?!

  28. I’m disappointed. Samsung could have really make something fun with this, and this just isn’t funny.

  29. samsung should focus on its own declining sales, cuz of over priced cheap plastic phones, samsung will die with jealousy sooner or later.

  30. like other things these ads are also copy of MAC VS PC, poor shamesung

  31. Jeff Ng - 10 years ago

so lame hope lightning strike the samsam sungsung crap name

  32. “Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 5s is outselling the Galaxy S5 from Samsung Electronic Co. (KRX:005930) globally, even though the Android handset is newer by seven months.”

That quote alone just summarizes the inevitable failure Samsung is facing, which leads them to promote more tasteless ads to convince and hypnotize their current owners to keep buying Samsung products.

  33. Their multiwindow was lagging even in the ad. Come on shamsung, you really have no shame? If I had a company and they made ads like this, I would fire the whole team who did them.

  34. 89p13 - 10 years ago

Samesung – Can’t innovate so you imitate. You introduce “new” phones and the press yawns; where was the build up and anticipation for your “new” products?

All that press was directed and waiting for the next Apple iPhone!

Samsung – crawl back under your rock and try harder next time.

    • herb02135go - 10 years ago

      Check your facts:
The new iPhone features have been available on Samsung devices for a while.
I’m loving the great battery life, screen size and multitasking on my S5.

  35. Brian Voll - 10 years ago

The iPhones and Macs have more screen time than Samsung’s stuff? Why don’t they do advertisements like Apple and actually show people using and enjoying their devices?

  36. Drew (@gettysburg11s) - 10 years ago

ha! Samsung is grasping at straws. These Ads are going to do nothing to change people’s minds. Anyone who is going to buy an iPhone 6 has already decided to do so. I’ll certainly be pre-ordering mine Friday at midnight.

  37. impure - 10 years ago

    Well, that was fast.

  38. Chris Lopez (@jclo37) - 10 years ago

This company, Samsung, is ridiculous. Spending money and time to immediately bash the competitor before it’s even released to the market…..scared or they have real problems. I won’t buy another Samsung (TV or anything) with this type of mentality behind the company.

  39. Andrew Maloney - 10 years ago

Seriously? Bigger than bigger is their new catchphrase? Do Apple not realise the large phone and phablet market has existed long before they entered it?

Whilst these ads are lame they do hit on a few pointers, Apple is lagging behind the rest of the industry.

The sleeping giant is now Microsoft who are significantly ahead of both Android and iOS with their phone software (and anyone that has experienced livetiles will tell you this).

Am I the only one that feels that iOS is dated? I had to laugh today when a colleague was attempting to use his iPhone to browse a website and the whole experience revealed just how much Apple have done to trap consumers in their own ecosystem. It’s a damned shame really because the whole strategy has simply retarded the iOS development process and the user experience is becoming increasingly dated.

Oh and my catchphrase for iOS users, “you actually need an app for that?”

What Android and Windows Phone are natively able to do puts iOS to shame. Time to wake up Apple users!

  40. herb02135go - 10 years ago

The truth is many features that you are excited about are features that I’ve been using for months on my S5.

In fact, I’ve had emails thanking me for highlighting this and at least one commenter was going to try the S5.

Be tolerant. Check out all of your available options. Then decide.
    Think differently.

And if you stuck with iphone, great. But don’t get so agitated when you see a Samsung ad or read a positive comment about the new Note or other Samsung device.
I’m again you might wet yourself. And the new iPhone isn’t water resistant.
    The S5 is.

    • I have never seen a positive comment on a samesung device that actually had a logic thinking behind it. I don’t know about you but I would feel ashamed being you and trolling on Apple websites with your crap. No one cares about your shamesung. And their ads? It’s crap! They can’t even make an ad, how stup*d.

      • YOU SUCH A BIAS. YOU LIKE IPHONE AND OTHER PEOPLE LIKE DIFFERENT PHONES. GET OVER IT. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION.

      • David (@whistler) - 10 years ago

And it’s clearly obvious that you like your Caps Lock key.

  41. Kuya Lu Viray (@mltviray) - 10 years ago

I think that the first ad is enough for me to stop from watching it. Not worth my precious time-at all! Stupid Samsung.

  42. iphonery - 10 years ago

It’s not Apple vs. the world, it’s Apple vs. Apple. They’re trying to improve from the last iPhone.

  43. anon - 10 years ago

Samsung – DONT BE SCURRED HOMIE.

  44. Michael Santti - 10 years ago

5 years olds have taken over Samsung’s marketing department.

  45. 4ndr0id5uck5 - 10 years ago

now that iphone has 4.7″ and 5.5″ screensize, i wonder what feature you (samsung) want to release for S6??!!! Phone that can fart? :P

  46. jeffpilkington2014 - 10 years ago

Or…….. its all just a bit of fun
WOW GUYS CHILL ( for the caps lock folk)
I have iPhone, my family have samsung
    We can all phone people
    email people
    text people
Take pictures of people and send them to other people (and each other)
Its a phone not a weapon of mass destruction (that’ll be iPhone 7)

  47. Prince AJ - 10 years ago

hahaha so funny knowing the Iphone will sel Millions !!! And Note 4 Not LOL!!!

  48. nsxrebel - 10 years ago

anyone else see this little gem by samsung?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-y3XuhMJQ28

  49. Ade Adeyemi-Steeze - 10 years ago

    Inferiority complex

  50. These Samsung adds only create curiosity for apple, as to why they’re #1. If Samsung is as gd as they say they are, they don’t need to compare themselves to apple…. Free publicity!

  51. charilaosmulder - 10 years ago

Samsung Unpacked events will never have streaming problems. And that’s NOT because their technology is any better.

  52. Yeah, well the funniest thing about that is either some of googles employees have Apple products or the buy them from apple. Which of course means they support Apple, maybe it’s just a small purchase but even though they are doing it.

  53. abel9037 - 10 years ago

Why can’t samsung just make a normal commercial about their products

  54. millser - 10 years ago

My god. I’ ve read all these comments and i can safely say I have never come across a bigger bunch of head up arse idiot technology fascists in my life. I am soooo glad I’ve left the Apple universe. These posts read like the rantings of the clone army. Best you put looped endless re runs of sex in the city on, sit back with your new IPhone and never leave the house again. Please.

  55. Raul Gupta - 10 years ago

It Would Have been Something worth watching if it was edited on a Mac Device

  56. Breaden Boye - 10 years ago

Narrate those ads with a crazy Korean accent and see how fun they are.

  57. Brandon Boye - 9 years ago

Read the spot with a crazy Korean accent – kind of like the guy who slashed the US ambassador.
    A lot less funny.
    Don’t buy Korean anything.

  58. Tony Viardo (@TonyVBlue) - 9 years ago

Of course Samsung is spewing these ads, it’s called DESPERATION, the large screen iPhone 6 is recording record sales numbers (more than the previous versions), while Samsung Galaxy is dropping… let’s see, 2+2 equals….
