iPhone 6 and 6 Plus already selling out, 5.5 inch model quoting 3-4 weeks shipping

Update 2: AT&T says demand is higher than iPhone launches from the last two years (via Recode): “Demand for the new iPhones is higher than that seen in either of the past two years, AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel told Re/code.”

Update: All models of the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus are now quoting 3-4 weeks shipping. Apple is still stocking most models of the iPhone 6, however.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch has not been smooth, to say the least. Many people are still unable to access the Apple Online Store to purchase Apple’s newest devices. Despite availability issues, many models are already selling out. Carrier websites are the first to be affected, naturally, as they always get less supply than Apple itself.

Both AT&T and Verizon are quoting three week shipping delays for the Plus, meaning customers buying now won’t get their phones until around the 7th of October. At the time of writing, the iPhone 6 is still available. At Apple’s own store, it seems like the 64 GB iPhone 6 Plus and the 128 GB iPhone 6 Plus is now also unavailable. However, the exact nature of supply is unclear due to the ongoing website issues.

Worldwide, reports show that Germany has already sold out of its initial stock and many UK carrier stores have sold out completely. We’ll update as availability changes. Some customers are reporting issues with iPhone reservations. Apple is saying that it cannot connect to carriers for processing, so although the iPhone is reserved, orders will have to be completed at a later date.       If the report from last Friday is correct there will only be 8 million Plus’s available this year. 72 million 6’s.

    Was able to get on the website but the Apple page wouldn’t allow me to select it and put it into the cart. Not sure what the problem with that was as I tried it on 4 different computers and it still wouldn’t work.

    I wouldn’t trust those numbers at all. At one point on the iPad Apple store app the only phone listed as available on att was the iPhone plus I. 128 GB. At the same time it was showing none available on the iPhone app.

    I still can’t get the store to load via the website. So I wouldn’t pay to much attention to availability and shipping times for several more hours.

      I agree. They had some major issues. I ordered mine from the iPhone App, says ships in 7-10 days but will arrive by Oct 1-6. Checked minutes later on the iPad App and it said same model delivers on 9/19.

      Yea mine went up from first week of October to 2nd week of November. What a joke. Of course I heard att hasn’t even gotten their phones yet so they don’t even know how long the wait will be.

    At least for the ATT 14-21 day estimate, I believe that is a placeholder date and not necessarily accurate. With the 5s launch the same thing happened, and many people still got their phones on launch day.

      I chatted with an AT&T rep and they told me that the dates are “very accurate.” I don’t even know what to believe. I placed my order at 1:56 CDT. I figured since I caught the preorder early, that I’d for sure have it on the 19th. Hoping it changes.

        Yea, I saw the same thing, got the order in at 11:55 PDT with AT&T, and it says not shipping until October.

        Same here!! Ordered very early on AT&T’s website, it still had at least 10 mins until 2:00 CDT and my shipping is showing Oct 2-13th.

      I got my order in for a silver 6+ 128GB at about 3:30am ET and my current estimated ship date is Oct 31-Nov 11. Not real happy right now since everyone else is quoting 3-4 weeks.

        Same for me. Ordered through AT&T at 3:30am EST. Estimated ship date is 10/31-11/11. I really do hope this gets updated. That’s nearly two months after the order is placed!!

    Ordered mine at about 1 PM PST via Apple Store App on my iPhone 5, got the iPhone 6 128 gig, space gray for store pickup on launch day. Did that because delivery is always late evening. The app kept timing out, but eventually I was able to get through it. Good luck all, FYI, Apple Store still down here on west coast at 1: 24 PM.

    Got one of those “We have an iPhone waiting for you” things from Apple, but it’s showing a gold iPhone 6 instead of the regular space gray. I really hope that’s just a picture and not one that they’re holding for me because I’ll be upset I woke up and stayed up for the wrong color :\ We’ll see I guess

    After spending 90 minutes trying to pre-order on the Apple site, I gave up and hit the AT&T site up.

    Tim – you shat the bed on this one! The last 2 releases were much smoother – I was on-line at 3:00 a.m. and back in bed by 3:30, with order numbers safely written down and a firm ship date in mind.

  11. Apple site still no worky worky. Was finally able to get the AT&T site to work to get one ordered. Also looks like iMessage is down…everything is going via SMS on iphone and ipad is showing a not delivered msg.

    I guess everything with the iPhone 6 rollout is going to get FUBAR’D…. event streaming was a disaster and now the store is down 90+ minutes past GO time.

    Just use the apple store app on ur phones. A few error messages but after not giving up it went through. Email confirmation and order number received. Delivers by October 1st-6th

    This is the first time I wasn’t able to pre-order. I have given up after wasting 1 hour and 45 minutes trying to get through Apple’s Online Store. Apple, T-Mobile, Tim Cook, Angela Ahrendts, and John Legere with a big FAIL on this one.

    How can we trust that Apple will get Apple Pay right if they cannot even get their own online store to work?

        I was hoping to order the unlocked version of the iPhone 6 Plus to use on T-Mobile. However, the Apple Store app didn’t allow the purchase of the unlocked/T-Mobile version.

        It has in the past. However, the unlocked phone was available for preorder this year.

        Maybe in the USA, but I have always ordered SIM FREE (unlocked and subsidy free) handsets directly from Apple on launch day ever since they offered it as an option in the UK. Today was no different apart from the technical difficulties causing the store to actually open 40 mins later from 12:01 PDT.

    I couldn’t get through on the website, but the Apple Store app worked and I got a 64GB space gray iPhone 6 through AT&T Next delivering 9/19. I ordered around 1:10am PDT. In other news, I hear Apple may be looking for a new webmaster. Apparently they hired the guy who designed healthcare.gov. /s/

    Got it done by following the lead of others here: downloaded the Apple Store app from the App Store, installed it, ordered it through the iPhone. A bit of a nightmare, and the Apple Store was so jammed up it didn’t let me add the Applecare I wanted, but I have already emailed Apple Store Support regarding that failure. But I did get an order number for a phone that (so far) they say ships 9.19.

    Went online to Verizon at about 4:45am Eastern Time, ordered three iPhone 6- (two 16GB and one 64GB), then did the trade in stuff. All went fine, was done in about 20 minutes, including a quick chat with a rep online.

    I am not gonna even try to get one now. I never do because I know their is a mad rush to get one. I will get one at the end of the year or beginning of the next when I know I can reliably get one. Something I always do unless my phone flatlined unexpectedly.

  22. Yeah that whole thing was insanely sloppy. I don’t even know, how being one of the first whenever it finally came up, that I still had a three week delay and it wouldn’t let me pick it up in store at all.

Despite being the second order in said shop (I went in as soon as they opened), and the first for an iPhone 6 Plus, I’m still worried EE won’t bother to send them a shipment at all next Friday due to how few phones they’re bound to get…

    What happens so the Verizon reservation codes that we got? When I received mine the 6+ was still available for 9/19 delivery. Now that I woke up it is 3-4 weeks out. Does the reservation code reserve the earlier date or should I go ahead and order now before that date gets even further away?

    • I spoke to a rep earlier. I’m in the same boat. She said from what she understands, it’ll be delivered on the original date shown when it was reserved.

        I refreshed the verizon website at 11.57 and it showed the preorder button. At the time of order it said it would deliver on 9/19 6+ Space gray 16GB. When I got the order it changed to 10/14/14

    I pre-ordered through AT&T at 3:30am EST for a 6+ 64GB in space gray…the website told me 14-21 days at the time, and 4 hours later I just got the e-mail confirming the pre-order, and it says 21-28 days!!! and now apple shows the same model shipping 3-4 weeks….I guess i’ll keep the AT&T order in place but disheartening that it could be a month before delivery.

        Same here through AT&T. BUT I actually ordered before the scheduled time. My official time on my confirmation is 1:56CDT (I’m guessing att opened it up a little early) and I still got 14-21 day delivery. I got confirmation email at 1:56 AM CDT and I got “process of being fulfilled” email about 20 minutes later. And still my expected delivery date ranges from 10/2-10/13.

      Same thing mine changed to be even longer. I ordered at 7am but if sAid 9/19 until I finished processing. Here’s to hoping it’s just an estimate or placeholder type date. I think last year people that ordered within the first few DAYS still got theirs on launch day. Otherwise I’ll just call around until I find one in store and cancel my online pre order. Shoulda known better. For some reason their are models in stores yet pre orders go unfilled. They should be first priority and in order of submission. Period. Not very complicating. Just like TAke a number at the Secretary of State ffs.

      Not to mention I order it and then find out they won’t charge me till god knows when at which point I can’t be sure their will be money in my account to cover it since I have no idea when it will be which is why I pre ordered to pay now when I had it.

    I tried about 4:00am et and i got a similar error except i got a message stating that i had a phone reserved and was provided a reservation number. I got an email from apple saying once they are able to contact the provider site they would email me a link to complete my order. Later i did get through with the 7-10 ship date but I may cancel that order if the reserved ship time is the 9/19.

    This article is a colossal understatement! I tried logging on immediately at midnight – no go at Apple or AT&T – and both showed “down” for 1 hour 20 minutes of continuing refreshing. I switched to the Apple Store app on my iPhone and got through, but the iPhone 6 Plus was already “unavailable for shipping in all colors at 64Gb and 128GB.” Back to AT&T where I finally get through, place a space gray 128GB Plus order, and I get the congratulatory email – “Your order will ship in 14-21 BUSINESS DAYS.” THEN I get a notice form Apple that they have reserved the same model for shipping in 7-10 business days ONCE they can get through to AT&T, who will ultimately decline that upgrade because AT&T has me on the hook as a direct sale for two weeks later. But in fact I am the one who is insane in this whole process for being suckered into so willing giving my money up to Apple and AT&T…

      When you get your AT&T email, with your confirmation number and all the details, click on the link that says something like” Check Status.” Once you get to that status screen you can click “Cancel This Pre-order” and you SHOULD be golden.

      However – YMMV.

  31. okay so i was one of the people from the UK who was able to order the iPhone 6 64GB space grey as soon as it went live from the apple store online website, and i also got my email about my order being processed, but i go into the Apple Store app and into my orders and nothing comes up, it says “Orders are not available at this time, please try again later” is anyone else getting this and i can’t even look at it through the website as it says the same thing, is this just a server issue? as now i’m scared that my iPhone has been ordered or not even though i have my order number

      30 minutes is a long time, imagine there’s hundreds of thousands of people doing exactly what you’re doing and beating you. I woke up at 1:58am central and started the process the second it refreshed open. I beat you, I finished my 64GB 6 Minus order in only 9 minutes from gates being open, said 9/19. And the Plus Size seems to be more in demand and was selling out quicker.

      I did the exact same order at 11.57 when they started the preorder. When I was doing the check out it said delivered by 9/19. When I got the email confirmation it said 10/14. I have the proof of the time in my email.

    Given the snafus with this rollout and the keynote streaming, I suggest Apple should hire a really good high-tech company to help them with technology issues…. :-)

      Or its just because there’s millions of simultaneous orders being placed all at exact the same moment…. no one can handle that sort of flood well. There’s only so many servers and it doesn’t make sense dramatically increase them and spend the money just to handle a once a year situation for a few hours. It’ll calm down and everyone will eventually get one, even if it takes an extra 3-4 weeks. First World Problems, lol. :)

    Question for anyone who knows… Of course, wasn’t able to buy the T-Mobile unlocked versions via the app this morning. Didn’t want to miss out on in-store pickup and get stuck waiting so I “pre ordered” two lines off of my AT&T account (aka said I was going to upgrade those two lines). I don’t want to do an upgrade based off AT&T’s bogus pricing and would much rather buy outright.

    I got an email saying my reservation was confirmed and that they would email when they get in touch with my carrier’s server. My question is – for the AT&T models I reserved, can they just be switched to the T-Mobile unlocked versions? I think Apple should seeing as it wasn’t an option via app and I had no other choice (well I could have waited but you get my point….). Not sure if the AT&T phones are specifically locked to AT&T…

    Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

If Samsunk wanted to make a commercial that speaks to iPhone users they would make one that shows peoples disappointment when they can’t even pre-order one because they are already sold out after a couple of hours. Then at the end in a whimpering voice they could say: “we still have plenty of phones for sale from Samsuck.”

      They are probably quite busy at this very moment working on a commercial to make fun of us for wanting Apple’s products so much, and also scrambling to come up with their own version of Apple Pay in a Touch ID “me too” future failure attempt. It’s easier to make fun of the competition instead of actually make better products obviously.

      Unfortunately when it ships. Had I know that I would have ordered at 3:01am and not been stuck waiting until November. I had to wait for the bank to open for my deposit to show up and low and behold it didn’t matter. It’s bukkshit

    Just spent 76 minutes on the phone on hold trying to correct the order I placed – and that’s not counting the 99 minutes that I was waiting for “the next available tech” to start an on-line chat!

    Tim – Customer Service . . . . What happened to the Apple World Class Service?

    Have another 20 hours to login back in and hopefully get someone to correct the order. We’ll see

      In other news, brand new propriety lightning cable doesn’t stay connected if I move it at all. Same thing happened with the one that came with it so I bought a new one, a longer one, more expensive. Happened to this one even quicker.

        I ordered 128GB 6+ via AT&T at about the same time you did (3:30am ET) and currently have the same estimated delivery date as you…Oct 31-Nov 11. If I recall correctly, when I pre-ordered my 5 via AT&T I was given a similar delayed ship date. While I didn’t receive it on launch day, I *did* receive it much sooner than the estimated date. Hoping the same thing happens this time.

    ATT – WTF ordered @ 2:30 am CST – 30 minutes into ordering and now you have updated my expected ship date to 10/31 – 11/11. I call BS. AND you charged my credit card already, even though the email confirmation says it won’t be charged until the unit is shipped.

        Att actually canceled my order. CANCELED IT and now I have to go into an actual store. Not that that’s an issue for me, but I never requested that my order be canceled. And they charged me for the phone

      Shoot I’m glad mine was charged. Otherwise they will end up over drafting me since they just charge whenever they feel like it. No rhyme or reason or way to know when.

      Although I ordered within a few hours of it going up and I’m told mid November. I’ll never use att again.

    I pre-ordered the 6 in gold w/ 64GB from AT&T and got my confirmation email at 3:57a eastern time. Just checked my order status and AT&T is still showing a ship date of 9/17-9/19.

    I have always bragged about Verizon’s customer service, but after my experiences today I’m ready to cancel my service and jump ship!! I was eligible for an upgrade but they wouldn’t allow me to sign up for the Edge program I placed the order any way. I also wanted to add a line to my existing account, but I was unable to do so because of the ECPD error message. I went around that and ordered it as a new customer establishing a new line of service. Lucky for me, I was able to get delivery dates of 9/19 for both Iphone 6+ devices. I was certain that the great reps at Verizon would be able to correct my two issues- switch me over to the edge program and merge the two accounts, especially since both issues were their error. That was not the case! This morning when I called in I was told they would have to cancel both of my orders and replace them pushing my delivery date out to mid-October. I have spent 5 hours on the phone with Verizon today; I’ve been hung up on, disconnected with no call back, and I finally got a very nice rep that is trying to help me but we’ve been on the phone for 2 hours and my issues still aren’t resolved! I’m appalled; I can’t believe their unwillingness to accommodate their customers for their errors. I’m extremely disappointed with the quality of service.

    Ordered at 3:45 AM EST on ATT.com and still have no delivery date… just in Progress. And of course they are not accepting incoming phone calls to customer service.

    3-4 weeks? I wish. Try 6-8. I pre ordered at 7am on the 12th and was told mid November. What a joke. U better believe when I call around and find one in store I’ll be canceling my pre order and going that route. No clue why apple didn’t start production sooner. I mean c’mon. Not to mention pre orders should be filled before stores but u can bet your rear I’ll see dozens of people with these before mine arrives. Stupid

    So if it TAkes two months to get your phone, does that mean you won’t be able to upgrade until two months after next years model drops? Even though u bought it when if went up? Sigh

    I have a reservation that timed out at 9 this morning and, after 24 hours of trying to get the reservation completed, could not. I even went to the Apple store (they couldn’t help). They are telling me to reorder which puts me at the back of the order list, until October 24. Talked to Apple (after holding on the phone for hours) and there is nothing they can do with the glitch. I am really, really disappointed in this launch.

    ATT really screwed me. Being on the business premiere my order just got processed today! (I ordered friday at 3:45 am EST!) They will be getting an earful from me.

    mine says: Preparing for Dispatch Delivery: 19/9 in most areas by Standard Shipping, does this mean ill get it on 19/9. funny thing is i also ordered a case and it wont be delivered untill october lol

    My order was complete 3 minutes after ordering opened and my shipping is estimated 3-13 Oct. That’s obsurd. How many ppl can order 6+ 64GB before me?

    I just got off the phone with ATT, I ordered the 6Plus 128 gig Gold, they gave a ship date of 11/9-27, I ordered at 12:45 am pacific time on 9/12. They said, there status from Apple is there are NO 128gig gold 6Plus’s produced at all, and if anyone shows a date earlier, it is wrong. There note from Apple is the production wont start until November, and the 9th is the earliest delivery date. the rep was kind and said don’t blame them, this is straight from Apple. She said I would have no problem if I wanted to get the 6 instead. I asked how could my wife, who ordered the same phone have a date of 10/2-13 she said she wouldn’t be getting it then, because her info says ATT won’t get any before the November dates

    iphone 6 plus 3-4 weeks
    i ordered mine today in apple and it tells you a date it says October 29 – November 4
