iOS 8 Roundup: Apps updated for Health (running list)

Health iPhone 6 narrow

I appreciate you guys keeping tabs on this, it is very helpful.

Suggestion: Similar article on Apps updated for the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus displays? Very hard to find in the store.

  2. Gabe Thompson - 10 years ago

Can someone explain to me why if the iPhone has a M7 motion co-processor, why do I have to use a 3rd party app as a Source for the Health app? I have a Moves that auto-logs my steps and Sleep Cycle that monitors my sleep, but neither these apps connect to Health. the idea that I will manually do this is ridic, and the fact that the processor has this info but can’t show it to me w/o a 3rd party app is confusing to me

    • quagski - 10 years ago

The app developers need to write to Health Kit API in order to read/write data and track with Health. Sleep Cycle is going to be updating with Health support very soon.

    • Luke W. Pæcheco - 10 years ago

you actually don’t need a third party device or app for movement. using just the phone without any extra apps I’m tracking distance, steps, and flights of stairs climbed.

    • zenderfulday - 10 years ago

You don’t have to use 3rd part apps, the health app uses the M7 on its own. 3rd party apps are used as sources for other info such as workouts, weight, pulse, etc.

    • bfredit - 10 years ago

Moves died when Facebook bought it, so don’t expect Health integration.

Sleep Cycle will just need to add support.

I’ll find that what M7 tracks is already in the app, like steps and stories, the rest will need to be added manually or by some other app/accessory.

    • PMZanetti - 10 years ago

The Health App tracks a lot of data that the M7/M8 can track. Steps, Flights Climbed, etc.

Other Apps can ALSO do this, and can publish that data to Health.app IF A) they update their App with HealthKit APIs in use, and B) You turn on this integration via the updated App.

MyFitnessPal allows you turn on Health integration, and lets you choose (too many) different metrics it can publish to. It is very cool, and not manual, except turning it on or off.

      • PMZanetti - 10 years ago

Likewise, My Fitness Pal tracks Dietary Calories based on user input, and can publish that to Health. This is one the few things I have turned on and showing on my Health dashboard.

  3. michaeltilst - 10 years ago

My favourite app is “Weight Diary” by Curlybrace. They are working on a updated version which will support Apple Health. They have no ETA yet… Can’t wait :-)

  4. I wonder when the Nike apps will work with it.. You can set Nikefuel on the dashboard, but it just doesn’t work

    • Don O'Neill - 9 years ago

And to boot I bought my Nike Fuelband + SE at the Apple store. Like what the heck are they doing!

  5. hingedthinker - 10 years ago

Now all the world needs is a unified healthcare database that is NOT run by a government.

  6. Inaba-kun (@Inaba_kun) - 10 years ago

Still no Fitbit. They need to get their act together.

  7. reichel0110 - 10 years ago

Still waiting for Withings to connect to HealthKit…

  8. I am waiting on Withings too. Through the Withings scale and Pulse and the promise of the Apple eHealth book, I have lost 30 pounds since mid-June.

  9. TechGuru - 10 years ago

Withings we are waiting for you!

  10. proudappleuser - 10 years ago

Is there an updated list for apps updated or released with METAL? The list in the App Store hasn’t been updated since it showed up.

  11. Ednar Belmonte - 10 years ago

    STRAVA where are you?????

  12. Kevin Neal - 10 years ago

Which app track “Active Calories” ? I would have thought some data (step data) should also be showing up as active calories, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, so I guess this will come from a third party app

  13. aediaz10 - 10 years ago

Now is the moment where I hate Nike closed the Nike+ development team, I really want this app to sync with Health :(

    • quagski - 10 years ago

They will definitely come out with an update with support, just a waiting game right now.

  14. Michael Savich - 10 years ago

The myPlate app (by LIVESTRONG) just updated to support HealthKit.

How to sync Garmin connect to health?

  16. Stephen Clarke - 9 years ago

Since the IOS 8 upgrade my Nike+ app doesn’t allow music to play and when I try to change the music setting it shuts the app down! Does anyone else have this issue, is a it a known issue???

    • Same here!!!! HELP!! I can’t run without music!

    • Gary Dyal - 9 years ago

I just transferred the Nike+ app to iPhone 6; same issue. Seems stuck on the “Now Playing” music setting, and closes app when I try to change it. Anyone find help for this?

      • Gary Dyal - 9 years ago

Looked at Nike support on Twitter. They recommended uninstalling/re-installing the app. Worked like a charm. Music! Running!

  17. RunGap (@rungapapp) - 9 years ago

Also check out RunGap. http://rungap.com :)

  18. Dana Bruce Smith - 9 years ago

Garmin Connect only works with the Health app for 3 Garmin products (none of the cycling computers!); the Strava app v 2.4.1 doesn’t seem to be working for cycling distance – doesn’t record any data. See the Strava and Garmin forums for confirmation/discussion. It’s pretty clear that neither Garmin nor Strava have a good handle on how to implement data sharing for all (or even most) devices and/or activities. Health app may develop into something useful but it’s a long way from there now…

  19. if you could add the icon picture next the name of the app this list would be perfect

  20. Louis T Blais - 9 years ago

Even if Garmin connect 2.0.6 says it is connected to the Healthkit, on my unit (Iphone5) it does not

  21. opivali - 9 years ago

Fitness Buddy just added themselves to the healthkit list, but they are very limited in what they share of the data they generate or what they read from healthkit.

  22. jrrdoc - 9 years ago

There are still some issues. For instance, if using for example the Strava app and you log a 5 mile run that started at 4 PM, the data point is sent to the health app as a single 5 mile entity time coded 4 PM. If you happen to carry your phone on the run, the health app and/or the phone will continuously log distance every second or two as well from 4 PM to whenever, sending the data to health resulting in a doubling of the distance on the dashboard. I also don’t find any easy way to say one click disable the health app and phone from tracking distance for example when starting a run when you would rather defer to a 3rd party app. setting the app priority does nothing to address this since its a single point and I’m not going to manually delete several hundred health app data points.

    • opivali - 9 years ago

Both Withings “Health Mate” and “Fitness Buddy” are only using the write data side of Apple’s HealthKit interaction with Apple’s Health Application. I don’t know if it is that they don’t trust information from any other source or that their current business model conflicts with Apple’s strict data usage policy in using both the HealthKit and Health App.

  23. Cindy Weisenfelder - 9 years ago

Digifit and Misfit Shine have just integrated with Health. I’m thrilled as I was trying to find a replacement for my Digifit app and didn’t find anything I liked as much.

  24. Brian Krabach - 9 years ago

We’re preparing the release of an app for importing data into HealthKit / Health.App – right now it supports importing a CSV format file that has been emailed to an account that you can check on the device. Is this something some of you would be interested in being notified of upon release? It’ll allow you to import data you may have previously tracked in a spreadsheet or perhaps from exported data from an app that doesn’t currently support HealthKit / Health.App.

  25. Cindy Rice - 9 years ago

I would like to see apps people actually use like fitbit, higi, pedomitors you can download. Those would be actually helpful. Until then I and shoving this health app into a folder I never use. Its useless to me right now.

  26. Ziv Meltzer - 9 years ago

Hello Doctor allows you to organize and access all your medical info on your mobile, and is updated to work with Apple’s Health. Get it now! http://get.hello.do

  27. Speedo Fit (Free) – the swim tracking app now syncs your swim workouts to HealthKit.

(disclaimer: I work for the company that developed this app)

  28. Eugene Smozhevsky - 9 years ago

Am I doing something wrong or “7 minute workout” integration with health kit is broken? The app shows up in “health” and in “settings>privacy>health” but no data appears in “health” from “7 minutes”. Active calories (which app asks for permission to write) are not showing up. “7 minutes” also keeps saying that it cannot read the weight data (the second of two options of integration) from “health”, although all permissions are there and weight data is there as well. Is there anything that can be done with the issue or the app is generally broken?

Tasks And Measures has been updated with Healthkit support – https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tasks-and-measures/id628021549?mt=8

  30. Jeramie Dunsworth - 9 years ago

Now if I read this right MapMyRun is supposed to link with the HealthKit app… So why doesn’t it? I have MapMyWalk & MapMyRun, sharing that data with ihealth app would come along nicely with the HealthKit… But like I said MapMyRun won’t sync

  31. Kari Fantz (@kfantz) - 9 years ago

I can’t see my previous day’s info (total distance, steps, flights, etc.) on the Dashboard. It won’t scroll backwards or show me yesterday’s numbers. Any ideas? Thanks.

  32. Gloria J Blanchet Bisson - 9 years ago

I love the apps provided to date, particularly the WW app. There is an additional app via WW that is called Active Link. It tracks your every movement and computes how many activity points earned. This would be an amazing addition to the Health app with iPhone and iPad. Please, please consider integrating this popular WW app.

  33. Michelle Douglas - 9 years ago

Can someone please explain to me in simple language , how to use the health app on my iphone 5 to track steps without a 3rd party app. Is this possible? I already have a fitbit which is not integrated with the health app and do not want another app to clutter my life.
