Hulu update brings new cleaner design alongside support for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

In version 4 of its app, Hulu has brought a whole new look to its video streaming app on the iPhone. What matters most is that the app is now optimized for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, meaning videos can use all the pixels of the larger 4.7 and an 5.5 inch displays, which is obviously a vital improvement for video viewing.

A hamburger menu keeps all actions just a couple of taps away. On the other side of the screen, another slide out panel reveals Shows You Watch — a quick way of getting to the content you use the most. Distancing itself from the previous design, the new Hulu app uses ample whitespace and light colors to fit in with the modern iOS motifs. The video playback screen maintains the black appearance to focus on the video canvas, but it too has been simplified and refined in the redesign, with scrubbing and ten second rewind prioritized.

Unfortunately, the developers have ignored the iPad for this release, so tablet users cannot benefit from the new user interface. The Hulu app (as usual) is free to download, but requires a paid subscription to take full advantage of the service.

We’ve redesigned the Hulu Plus app for iPhone from the ground up to create a focused and simple experience. Here are the key features:

• Home – Best content of the day on Hulu, handpicked and curated by our expert editorial team
• Shows You Watch – Easy access to all the shows you are currently watching, personalized to your viewing habits
• Navigation – Discover the entire breadth of the Hulu catalogue from TV, Movies, Kids, Latino, British and Hulu Originals
• Player – Brand new player with cleaner controls and a nested menu for rich features like captions, share and cast to TV
• Action Tray – Quick access to search, queue and cast to TV features from anywhere in the app
• Search – Reimagined search with contextually grouped results by category
• Remote control – stream and control your viewing experience on the big screen via Apple TV, Chromecast, Xbox1, PS3 and PS4
• Share – Share your favorite videos with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, text and email

And there’s more, the new Hulu Plus app is compatible with iOS8 and runs beautifully on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Fasten your seat belts and get ready to enjoy hit new shows from Fall TV, like How to Get Away with Murder, Gotham and Mysteries of Laura with the new Hulu Plus app…all for the love of TV.

Like I want to use a service that I have to pay for and still be annoyed by all those commercial interruptions! No thank you, Hulu — you can keep your lousy service. I want my viewing time spent with the material I want to see not interjected with advertising. I want my time free from distractions.
