Facebook and YouTube release iPhone 6/Plus app updates

After more than a month since the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screen sizes were announced, Facebook has released an updated version of its iPhone app to take advantage of the bigger screens. The new app features a smaller navigation bar and shows more content on the screen. Facebook had previously updated its Messenger app for the new iPhones, although its alternative Facebook Paper app is still awaiting an update.

YouTube also released an updated version of its iPhone app today optimized for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screen sizes. This means you can see more video suggestions from the main page as well as well favorites and subscriptions from the side bar.

The status bar and keyboard are also native to the larger iPhone models versus the previously scaled up versions on the new iPhones with the old app. YouTube 2.13 for iPhone and iPad also includes a number of bug fixes for the app:

* Prevent the status bar from overlapping the UI
* Address keyboard orientation issues
* Make scrubbing more responsive
* Show all playlists when adding videos

Google, which owns YouTube, has already released updates to some of its other iPhone apps including Gmail, although its primary Google app and Google Maps app are still pending updates for new iPhone users.

YouTube for iPhone and iPad is available for free on the App Store, although iPad users may want to skip this update if possible as users are reporting issues displaying content properly.

    And the stupid icon with the chin remains.

      I’d love it on my home screen but that chin is distracting.

      I don’t understand. What chin?

      • The dark line on the bottom of the icon that makes it look like a 3D or ‘Real’ button. It distracts from the flat design of the UI and other icons. It’s a very iOS 6 style.

    Glad to see three of the bugs I’ve been having with YouTube finally fixed. Videos are constantly freezing and lowering in quality too, hope this is fixed.

  7. Sticking with version 7 until they break it, then I’ll use Safari, and if they break that, they’ve lost me.
