Screen Shot 2014-11-03 at 6.05.59 PM

Apple has just seeded the very first beta of what will become the first update to the redesigned OS X Yosemite that was launched last month. The update to version 10.10.1 has a build number of 14B17.

The change notes indicate that Apple is making improvements in the areas of Wi-Fi connectivity, Exchange support in the Mail application, and the Notification Center, which gained support for widgets in the new operating system.

The beta can be downloaded through the Updates tab in the Mac App Store for users who have joined the AppleSeed pre-release program or developers running beta versions of OS X. It should also be available in the Mac Developer Center.

Is this available for users that were a part of Yosemite Public Beta? Or do I need to sign up again? nothing showing up on my updates (ran the beta access utility again as well)

    • seems like it I have the update in my macstore and I’m not a Dev just signed up for the public beta

    • Robert Wacker - 9 years ago

CP, I am having the same problem here on both our machines. Have you received anything yet?

    • John Rubinstein Mijares - 9 years ago

not a dev but I got the update and I don’t even want it because installing Yosemite Beta was a mess. :-(

      • Robert Wacker - 9 years ago

I Got 10.10.1 Beta Today and everything works but Airdrop. Airdrop is a hit or miss now on whether or not the Macbook Pro sees another device of any kind. Feedback has been sent.

      • Robert Wacker - 9 years ago

I digress there are many more problems. Macbook Pro won’t sleep when computer screen is shut, my graphics card is over heating and many other little things. This beta is bad news bears.

  3. Hopefully they fixed the audio drivers being staticy. Gonna update now.

They need to fix WiFi, Bluetooth, Back to My Mac across Internet, Mail app (address book issues), and a host of other items. Yosemite broke more items than features they added. I like Tim Cook and he seems to have been excellent for Apple’s stock price. But quality control with software releases is not one of his strong points.

Not available in the Mac Dev center

    • Mike Beasley - 9 years ago

will probably be later, sometimes there is a delay

      • PMZanetti - 9 years ago

Maybe today, but definitely still not available in the dev center.

Exchange support is would be really useful!

The Wi-Fi sharing name bug is the one that I want fixed right away.

Also … bring back the old Spotlight! The new version takes away so much and adds nothing useful for me.

    • dugbug - 9 years ago

It takes away something? What do you not like about spotlight. Have you turned off the search tunables?

    • sentinelprimek - 9 years ago

Is it the bug where your computer name haa a number at the end of it?

  8. Henry Aidasani - 9 years ago

Hopefully the fix the graphics issue. During using Safari the screen goes crazy!!

    • braincasualties - 9 years ago

True! and also java-based apps get blurred when using the power saving mode; VMWare VMs screen resolution changes as you switch desktop… ufff… Yosemite “looks fine”, but its a bag of bugs :(

    • Raymond Lynn Beavers - 9 years ago

You’re so right!! I hate that it causes me to Force Quit Safari because their was an error with graphics and freezes it up.

  9. Since this update my iMac won’t recognize my iPad and iPhone anymore

I had a problem with my AirPrint printer and discovered a cute little ‘feature’…

I have a new router and I set up two networks, one on 2.4 GHz and one on 5 GHz. If the printer and my device are on different networks, AirPrint doesn’t work. The printer is still accessible via my MacBook Pro, because that uses the IP address.

My point is that what was for me one problem — my AirPrint feature mysteriously stopped working — it had a completely unrelated cause and my initial assumption that it was a printer or iOS problem was wrong. I wonder if any of us have had Yosemite problems and will later realize that, oops, it was a *second change* that we didn’t realize would be relevant.

  10. Hopefully they fix the Internet stability bugs. I have the same issues on Wi-Fi and via my Ethernet to USB 3.0 adapter. Works for like 30-60 seconds then despite saying it’s connected to the internet still forcing refreshes etc. that is after a minute of a Safari page struggling to load I can hit refresh and works instantly.
Lacking consistency is probably the easiest way to describe it! xD

Apple Seed tester here – still “No Updates Available” for me… and yep, Sys Prefs > App Store says I’m setup to receive pre-release updates… anyone else? thoughts?

    • Matthew Fox - 9 years ago

you have to go to appleseed and download the seed configuration utility for beta seeds to show up in at the mac app store.

      • Matthew Fox - 9 years ago

or its because the seed doesn’t seem to be ready.

      • thebern23 - 9 years ago

Sorry, should have mentioned that I’ve done that already as well. You might be right that the seed isn’t ready. I hadn’t heard much from non devs about their luck with getting this installed.

    • hoorayberet00 - 9 years ago

I’m having the same problem….no updates showing yet and I’m an Apple Seed Tester.

    • Robert Wacker - 9 years ago

The bern I am having the same issue on both our machines the 10.10.1 pre-release software isn’t showing up here either. (I’m a non-dev as well).

    • thebern23 - 9 years ago

Just checked the App Store and 10.10.1 was finally listed. Getting it installed momentarily.

I didn’t really want this seed update but I have a bad habit of downloading and installing updates before I really know what the update is. Or should I say, I HAD that bad habit! From now on I’ll be checking. I leave my MacMini on 24/7 to run BOINC, and when I got on the computer today I saw the little window telling me something like “updates haven’t been installed” (or whatever that little window says). I clicked “update” without thinking. Next thing I know this seed update is being installed. It scared me a little bit because things were going very slowly. VERY slow. Also, the warning that accompanied the update sent a chill down my spine! (I read it after the install.) I verified and repaired disk permissions, and now everything seems to be okay. Haven’t checked to see if I’m having problem(s) others have mentioned (like recoginizing my iPhone and iPad). I suppose I got the update because I Beta-tested Yosemite. So I do have it. It came through the App Store. Now, my question is: Is there something I can do so that I don’t get these “seed” updates anymore? Thanks.

P.S. I’m here now because I googled the update to see what it was about. Better late than never!

    • Robert Wacker - 9 years ago

Go to System Preferences – > App Store click on the “change”in the section that says you are set up to receive the Pre-Release Seeds and click that you no longer want to receive said Pre-Release Seeds (Technically “Do Not Show Pre-Release Seeds”).

Interesting that Safari has been updated to 8.0.2 because they’re also beta testing Safari 8.1 from what I understand as well – maybe we’ll see them both released at the same time. Looking forward to seeing 10.10.2 released to smooth out the rough edges before the Christmas and New Years break.
