Apple seeds new beta of OS X 10.10.2, highlights fixes for Wi-Fi issues

Screen Shot 2014-12-04 at 6.30.21 PM

Apple has seeded a new build of the OS X Yosemite beta to AppleSeed users and developers. The seed notes for build 14C78c say that testers should focus on Wi-Fi connectivity, indicating that Apple has done some work in that area to resolve outstanding issues.

The update comes in at about 470 MB and is available now in the Updates tab of the Mac App Store. It should be available shortly on the OS X Developer Center as well.

  1. It’d be nice if they could fix the keyboard disconnect bug too, cause that’s reheheheheheeeeally annoying.

Again this beta is not showing up to the AppleSeed Beta Developers.

      Retina iMac, right?

      • Ryan Morano - 9 years ago

Happening on my 2012mbp i7 too. Ill have to see if this beta fixes this

      • Stephane Ceretti - 9 years ago

it’s not fixed, and it is REALLY annoying

      • stre12 - 9 years ago

on my iMac 21 early 14 too

      • Mark Pointer - 9 years ago

Late 2009 21.5 iMac. Maybe its needs an upgrade!

      • JERSH (@socratitties) - 9 years ago

same issue here too on my 2009 MacBook Pro 17″. wake from sleep upon opening the lid gives no response and requires a restart. if it auto/manually goes to sleep and i try to wake it, the screen wakes up but doesn’t seem to respond to any trackpad input or keyboard input except for the function keys and when i press ESC it goes back to sleep, also requiring a restart.

what’s up with all of Apple’s software snafus this year? this is getting ridiculous.

I just upgraded my iMac Late 2009 (which was running 10.10.1 without problem) with an SSD instead of the Optical Drive, I reinstalled Yosemite and it updated to 10.10.2 and now I got this problem. Weird thing is I did the same to my father’s late 2009 iMac and it’s working fine on his.

    • nickjeremiah - 9 years ago

I had that same issue in Mavericks, then I updated to Yosemite and it was fixed. I’m a very rare case where I’ve only had some very minor issues. None of the issues posted on 9to5 I’ve had a problem with, and the small issues I do have don’t seem to be mentioned anywhere. It’s very weird.

I had this problem on my 27″ iMac (late 2013) and 15″ MacBook Pro (late 2011) too. I read somewhere that reinstalling Yosemite from the Recovery Mode (Command+R on startup) would work, and sure enough, it did. If you have a few hours to spare, I’d recommend giving that a try.

Ugh, I still have it also. Mid-2010 MBP has the same issue for me.

    • I wrote a comment on the article in today’s update. If you have AirParrot installed this might help:

      From https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6693039?start=15&tstart=0

For Macs running OS X 10.6, the following commands can be run from the terminal:

      sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext
      sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext
      sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.squirrels.AirParrot.plist
      sudo rm -rf /Applications/AirParrot.app

For users using OS X 10.9 or 10.10 the following additional commands may be necessary:

      sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext
      sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext

      • Markus - 9 years ago

Thanks you! That was exactly the problem.

    • John Smith - 9 years ago

Yes the black screen wake is very annoying!! My iMac 2011 27″ suffer from this. I gave bug report from that since Yosemite public beta and it is still now fixed. Apple is so slow to fix things. I still think the best OS was snow leopard. Since then, always had many bugs that drive me nuts.

Glad they finally fixed the wifi issues … again /s

  5. Avenged110 - 9 years ago

Wi-Fi issues are to OS X what battery life issues are to iOS…

  6. Eric Mason (@eMason0321) - 9 years ago

That took FORRRRRREVER to download and I’m on 50mbps.

  7. Hope they fixed the VPN proxy issues, will check it out when people give the all clear.

  8. Chris Carman - 9 years ago

Does anyone know if it fixes the issue with chrome crashing when using a track-pad?

  9. monty72 - 9 years ago

I got the seed invite, not decided if I’ll try it yet

    • monty72 - 9 years ago

Tried it and exactly the same problem, bluetooth halves my connection speed.

  10. It come back! Quicktime playback speed is now showing on the bar. Thanks

  11. stenar - 9 years ago

It’d be nice if they’d fix the still existing WiFi issues in iOS 8.1.1.

  12. alvaroamorim - 9 years ago

    Didn’t apear in my AppStore…

  13. PMZanetti - 9 years ago

Considering I had to restore from a Time Machine backup to get back to 10.10.1 from the last disaster beta of 10.10.2 (which was subsequently pulled for any Retina iMac user)….I’m not taking the plunge on this until it releases publicly.

  14. arjay67 - 9 years ago

A lot of attention going to the WIFI issues. I haven’t had any issues with that. For me, and several others, we would like to see Messages work again.

I’m still having weird WiFi Issues whereby my Mac “hogs the internet”. Let me explain.

I have a Macbook Pro w/Retina and it’s the only Mac in my house. The rest comprise of 2 Windows 7 Laptops, 1 Windows 8 Laptop and 1 Windows 7 Desktop.

Whenever my Mac connects to the internet, it runs fine for me, but the internet runs slow for my families Windows Computers. The Moment my Mac disconnects from the internet, it runs fine for the Windows Computers.

Very odd bug, Yosemite has found a lots of bugs. more than I remember being in Mavericks, but end of the day, that’s the only bug I’ve experienced.

    • Problems like this is usually associated to the network topology or switching devices. If some of your devices is wired to switch hubs, it’s highly possible that your local network is connected as a loop. In a looped local network, any broadcast packet will circle in the loop until the ToL counter goes off, which will drastically reduce the overall networking performance and cause lots of unpredictable issues. And OS X relies heavily on broadcast packets for device pairing. Another possible issue is TCP packet MTU size. Some home routers will have problem if you have multiple devices with different MTU size.

I’d recommend you to clear up your local network, remove any redundant connections, check the IP and MAC conflict, and change your home router. If the situation persist, I’d recommend you to shutdown AirPlay, AirDrop, Continuity, TimeMachine, and Bonjour services on the Mac.

      • djbigboss - 9 years ago

Cheers, I’ll give this a shot!

  16. Really expect more from Apple, I now have a sleep/wake issue where my iMac doesn’t resume after sleep, the LED lights power up a black screen, no login at all. Only solution is to restart. So annoying!

    • John Smith - 9 years ago

I wonder if we should send our electricity bill to Apple? Maybe they will speed up fixing this #@$@#$ wake issue. Since day one of Public beta I reported this and Apple did not care to fix yet.

  17. Still having Wifi problems in the latest seed. I separated my 2.4 and 5ghz networks to different SSIDs on my router. 2.4 works now, but 5Ghz displays same behavior since updating to Yosemite, which is an unusable Macbook.

I’m running 10.10.2 and the wifi disconnect issue still exists for me! I’ve tried every tip I can find but still no luck.. not good Apple. My next step is downgrading to Mavericks..
