Gorgeous neo-retro Mac Neue redesigns original Apple Mac as thin, metal silhouette

macneuex

Beautiful renderings from German site Curved/labs depict a stunning metallic ode to Apple’s original Macintosh computer. While acknowledging the enhanced functionality of Apple’s latest computers, such as the Retina iMac, Curved/labs suggests that the company often neglects its own design history when releasing new machines – the inspiration for this “tribute.”

Made from aluminum with a front-facing SD card slot at the edge of a floppy disk-styled groove, the proposed Mac would be roughly based on the internals of a MacBook Air, including an 11.6″ screen enhanced with purely optional touch capabilities. A golden version would come closer to the classic beige Mac tone, while silver and space gray colors would be available. Since Apple is unlikely to produce such a machine, readers have suggested that the design would be an excellent form factor for an iPad stand, which we could definitely see as possible – minus the Apple logos. 1. I’m sorry I have to say that. That’s linkbait only. And you took it. Curved is not a magazine like yours, they’re 100% E-Plus, a German mobile carrier. That’s not news but marketing.

This is not a magazine, this is and always was a blog.

What exactly are they marketing – a product that no one can buy? They’re beautiful images, no purchase required.

Front heavy and unstable design. Agree could make a descent iPad stand if designed with stability in mind

11.6″ desktop Mac in 2015 ? I don’t think so. I use a 30″ 2560×1600 IPS display with my old Mac Pro and a three 4K UHD displays with my new 6-core Mac Pro from 28″ to 50″.

I think I might have a new project on my hands! Time to get myself an 11″ Air and make that beauty

Reblogged this on Carpet Bomberz Inc. and commented:
Homages can be a great thing, when they force one to reconsider the thing being honored. Parodies too, they can be useful as homage. Austin Powers forced the producers of James Bond to reconsider all that had gone on before. So they rebooted the franchise with Casino Royal and Daniel Craig, and the rest as one might say is history. Apple take note.

Sort of pretty, eye-catching and cute, but, probably not very functional. Apple is all about form AND function. There’s the true art. Nonetheless, it might be a creative inspiration. Not that Apple doesn’t have a few creative artists on its team. Who knows what they have hidden in their vaults?
