As filming for the announced Steve Jobs biopic continues, first at Steve Jobs’ childhood home, then at the Flint Center where the original Macintosh was unveiled, the first photos of Michael Fassbender and Seth Rogen as Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak have appeared.

The film, now under direction of Universal Pictures, began filming sometime in January. The road to this point has been somewhat rocky, with several notable dropouts and significant changes along the way.

Perhaps it’s just me, but I don’t see the resemblance.

I think he looks close enough for me to be willing to see how he performs in the trailer before passing judgment.

Then again I still find myself missing Steve from time to time.

I refuse to watch any Steve Jobs biopic that doesn’t include Christian Bale.

You are expecting Christian Bale wearing batman costume and say I’m Jobs ?

The movie had better be really good for me to get past the lack of resemblance to Steve.

I know this is supposed to be the “better” and the “arty” movie treatment of Steve Jobs, but let’s face it, actors that look, move and act like the real people are more important. Fassbinder looks nothing like Jobs and Rogen looks nothing like Wozniak. This is probably the first role that Rogen has played where he is actually “too skinny” for it.

Verisimilitude is more important than acting chops when it comes to biographies. Period.

As I said on another recent article, my excitement dropped when Christian Bale did. Perhaps good acting will aid the suspension of disbelief or perhaps I could hope those shots don’t do the final production justice because I’m not seeing Steve Jobs at all in those shots.

For all the criticism directed at Ashton Kutcher, so far he’s at least LOOKING the part a heck of a lot better.

I for one am glad that some good actors and good writers are behind this, he may not look like Steve but all all here has to do is grow that beard out a bit

I watched the Kutcher movie and once you quit thinking of him as Kelso, it’s actually not bad. And he looks so much like Jobs…this movie will always be the “second jobs movie” and Fassbender looks NOTHING like Jobs…that will kill it IMO.

“The Life of Amelia Earhart” — as played by Beyonce.

Pirates of Silicon Valley will always be the best for me.

All this fixation on how Fassbender looks reveals a distressing amount of superficiality in the commenters. Most of the actors who have starred in the best biopics over the years have had no strong resemblance to their subjects — Jaime Foxx doesn’t really look a thing like Ray Charles, Joaquin Phoenix bears no real resemblance to Johnny Cash, and have you ever looked at Anthony Hopkins and said to yourself, “gosh he’s a dead ringer for Richard Nixon”? No. No, you have not.

All three of those movies are highly-regarded, however, because each of the actors was able to capture the essence of the subject. I have no idea if Fassbender will pull that off to everyone’s satisfaction, but I’d put money down he’ll be more convincing as Jobs than Kutcher was, despite the latter’s strong resemblance.

Get some depth and open your minds, people.

  11. In my opinion, the resemblance to Steve is immaterial. A engaging storyline and keeping it faithful to historic events is more important

  12. Jesse Eisenberg looks nothing like Mark Zuckerberg either, except both wear sweaters. I’ll wait for the trailer until I judge Fassbender.
