As someone who probably hasn’t spent $500 on fashion in my lifetime, I don’t think I’ll be buying this…

What are they smoking?? $449 just for a band?? 😳

    • Fallenjt JT - 9 years ago

      Third party: $20.

    • heystyleguy - 9 years ago

That’s between $250 and $900 dollars cheaper than a stainless link bracelet for many watches. The standard Omega Seamaster/Speedmaster bracelet will run you $690 … and a stainless bracelet for a Chopard or a Hamilton will put you back over a grand. If they are smoking anything, it is on the side of underpricing … especially since the stainless link bracelet is far, FAR nicer than anything the Swiss makers are offering right now. The Apple bracelet makes the one on my Omega look positively rough.

Most of those watches will last you a lifetime or more. This year’s Apple Watch will probably be replaced next year when they come out with a new model, or in 2 years when the battery life drops off to about a few hours, or on the outside, 3 years when Apple stops supporting the old watch on their newest phones.

  3. So I can buy a watch for $599 and it comes with a rubber strap and no charger?

    • juanm105 - 9 years ago

For $599 you are buying the Apple Watch stainless steel model. Yes, the standard band for that base model is the “sport” band, i.e. a “custom high-performance fluoroelastomer” as Apple calls it. Yes, it is rubber-like band. What else do you get?

      What’s in the box?
      Apple Watch
      Magnetic charging cable
      USB power adapter
      Band
      Quick start guide

remember you can buy the sport model for $100 less. The smaller (38mm size) watches are $50 less than the 42mm. (i.e. 38mm for stainless is $549, the 42mm model $599)

I think all the money washing around Silicon Valley has distorted Apple’s pricing vision. I wanted the stainless steel watch with the Milanese loop but at these prices… I just don’t know.

I want no Apple watch with 1 day battery life…Love their other products tho.

    • philboogie - 9 years ago

Most of their other products also come with a 1 day battery life. Shorter, actually.

On what planet does a leather watch strap cost $249.00?

    VERY surprised!

    • On the Edition, the price difference between one of the straps is $3400…

    • darkenv2 - 9 years ago

I know! I was wanting to get the Watch stainless steel with the leather modern buckle and a sport band but that would cost $798 for the 38mm watch. This is truly ridiculous

  7. paulthefencerfencer - 9 years ago

Don’t get me wrong I love Apple products. I have an iPhone, iPad, had an iPod till I bough the iPhone, and 2 Apple TVs. I was mildly interested in the Apple Watch. But good God, what the hell’s with the prices for the straps. $450 for a basic stainless steel band that any $10 watch comes included with. I’ll never buy one. Ever!!!

  8. darkenv2 - 9 years ago

Ok will all these bands be available for the Watch Sport or not? Cause from the presentation it made it seem like only the stainless steel watch would be able to use the different bands

  9. zBrain (@joeregular) - 9 years ago

obviously they want to have their revenue back, as they are selling the apple tv for 30 dollars cheaper…

  10. incredibilistic - 9 years ago

I understand the $149 but $449 for the stainless steel band seems excessive. And while I’m sure the quality is top notch I just don’t see why it has to cost that much. If it was partially gold or even platinum I’d understand but stainless steel anything shouldn’t cost this much. That doesn’t mean Apple won’t sell them but I doubt it’ll sell those bands in volume.

Doesn’t mean people won’t buy it but it does show that Apple is headed in a different direction than the competition. This is truly the beginning of an entirely new direction for the company.

These prices do make me worry about how much the Apple Car will cost. If a stainless steel band is over $400 then we should probably expect an automobile to be priced above $20k at the low end. Maybe they’ll make an entire line with a luxury line competing with the Maybach’s of the industry. Maybe a $100k Apple Car with platinum rims and a gold steering wheel.

what about 3rd party bands? have and brands released any yet?

  12. J.latham - 9 years ago

I’ve loved apple products for a long time but I don’t get this at all. The day’s events had me taken a back. Between the complete tease that was an Apple TV announcement to the loss of things such as MagSafe on the new MacBook is was surprised with how much it just seemed to be a disappointment. But those prices… I mean I already knew that I wouldn’t get an Apple Watch even if it started at the Apple TV’s new $69 price point but now I don’t understand how this looks good to anyone.
