WSJ: Next iPhone to include Force Touch, Apple considering pink color option

force-touch

Apple is reportedly planning to bring its Force Touch technology to the next version of the iPhone, the Wall Street Journal says. The tech was first introduced in the Apple Watch last September, then made its way to the latest MacBook model during yesterday’s “Spring Forward” event.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the next-gen phone will support Force Touch. Even in 2013, rumors were flying that Apple was looking into improved pressure sensors for use in the iPhone.

When Apple first debuted the iPhone with its multi-touch display in 2007, it was only a matter of time before the company brought that same multi-touch technology to its MacBook lineup. Bringing Force Touch to the iPhone after launching it on the Apple Watch and MacBook keeps right in line with Apple’s history.

The same report also says that a new color option might be introduced, allowing users to buy a pink version of the smartphone and possibly doing away with the colorful options found in the iPhone 5c. The pink color is currently only in testing, the Journal says, and may or may not end up making it to the final product.

Other aspects of the phone, such as the design and display sizes, are expected to remain the same as previous “S” iterations of the iPhone. It is expected to sport 2 GB of RAM (up from 1 GB found in the iPhone 6) and ship with the multi-carrier Apple SIM that was discovered in the newest iPad.

Forcible Touching is a Class A Misdemeanor here in New York. Maybe the s in 6s will stand for Sex offender…?

The iPhone 6S is also likely to see Taptic engine replacing the vibrator motor. I’d rather feel taps on my phone than a loud incessant vibrating motor.

True haptic feedback with ability to feel textures is next. It will be insanely great for visually impaired too.

      • I remember when the rumours about the iPhone 5 where doing the rounds and that was going to have true haptic feedback. 3 years later it could be a possibility, however, with the iPhone 6 already being slim, and the battery no doubt taking up a substantial amount of the interior space, I don’t know how they could possibly squeeze it in.

It would take too much battery life…

(Product) red version would make more sense then pink.

Force Touch will probably one of the main features Apple uses to sell the 6s.

Curious if usb c makes it this year or will wait for next years iDevices.

I always thought a red iPhone to support (Product) red would make a lot of sense. It would look great, similar to the iPod Touch, and I would buy it in a heartbeat.

  5. I think that it will be less pink and more Rose Gold to match the Apple Watch.

Yes, that’d work nicely. First Apple Watch hue that jumped out of the screen for me… should do the same for the handset, for many people, Android/WIndows switchers even.

    • I’d be all over this too. Ever since getting my Fuel Band in Rose Gold I literally can’t stop looking at the colour.

Well, that’s all well and good. Still waiting for the option to have an array of colourful options for MacBooks though. Missing the tangerine something fierce.

    thanks

  8. I really hope they implement it towards the bottom of the screen too, I have such a hard time getting the quick menu or camera to flick/slide up sometimes.. especially in other apps that have their own functions to slide up from the bottom – a difference in pressure would allow the phone to much more efficiently open things like this that a currently a nightmare!

  9. Who cares what colors the iPhone comes in. It has to be wrapped in a case since the back is so easily scratched.

    • My iPhone 6 has no scratches on the back, it’s never had a case and I place it on my desk and other surfaces, plus have it on my pocket. I don’t understand how yours is easily scratched.

Touch sensitivity is nothing new. Almost all touch devices have had this ability for a very long time. Apple finally woke up and provided the information in the API for the devices. It’s been there for Windows and Android for a very long time, but hardly used because it’s not very useful.

What about wireless charging? Is it time for the iPhone yet?
