Apple launching volunteer program for employees to help local communities

Apple has informed employees today that is launching a new volunteer program today that will push employees to assist their local communities. The program is called the “Apple Global Volunteer Program,” and it is soon launching in the United States, Sydney, Australia, and Cork, Ireland before a larger rollout across the world. The program is said to be available for both retail and corporate employees.

Here’s Apple’s memo to employees:

Since its launch in 2011, the Apple Matching Gifts Program has been an astounding success, with a combined total of over $78 million donated to charities and non-profits around the world. Now employees in the U.S. have a new way to make an even bigger impact on the causes they care about where they live: the Apple Global Volunteer Program. The program empowers employees to become Volunteer Champions and receive training and tools to help organize and publicize volunteer events in their communities. It also makes it easy for employees to find activities where they can volunteer their time and quality for Matching Gifts. Right now we’re piloting the program in the US, Sydney, and Cork with the goal of expansing it worldwide in the future.

The program will assist employees in organizing and championing charities and events in their local communities. The program will also be a continuation of the long-running Apple employee donation matching program as Apple will match donations made via this new Global Volunteer Program as well. Apple has also informed employees that over $78 million has been raised by the pre-existing charitable donation matching program.
