Alleged iPad Pro schematics leak as cases compared to iPad Air 2 (video)

Screen Shot 2015-05-01 at 8.21.31 AM

A new video has been published that compares the rumored iPad Pro shape/size to the current generation iPad. It’s obviously much larger than the iPad Air 2. This rumored tablet is said to feature a 12.3 to 12.9 inch display. Check out the video below for a size comparison between the cases and iPad Air 2…

Recently images surfaced of similar cases, but it’s unclear if the shape/size here actually represents something Apple is working on. Most of these cases are put together using renders and mockups, but in some cases have been fairly accurate when compared to the final product. Either way, the video below uploaded by Unbox Therapy is very helpful in comparing the size differences.

Purported iPad Pro dummies surfaced a while back as well, but these are likely being created from the same rumored specifications that have been floating around lately. In the video, the case measures 8.75 inches in width, height is exactly 12 inches, and 12.5 inches diagonally. Check out the video below for a closer look at the alleged iPad Pro case:

I’d love a bigger iPad. I’m a musician and I’ve always wanted to keep all my scores on an iPad, but the 9.7″ is just too small to rehearse with and annotate. If indeed they release one that can view a full-size 8 1/2×11″ piece of paper on-screen, I’ll be first in line!

*high five!* Gotta love using iPads for music scores. A bigger screen would definitely be an improvement.

Maybe it’s me, but I don’t see a link to any leaked schematics.

What I do see is a free ad for your buddy at Unbox Therapy.

What would help here is if the guy in the video realised that literally the entire world except for the USA uses metric, and that saying stuff is “about (so many) inches” and using a f*cking carpenters tape to measure it is actually something your grandpa would do.

Also, the main reason for a larger iPad is that in a keyboard case situation, the keyboard would be “full-sized” for the very FIRST time, and thus enable touch typing for the first time, or a “laptop experience.” The fact that this guy spent literally a second showing us the more relevant folding case just shows what a dumbass he is IMO.

Apple’s website has the dimensions in inches followed by mm in parentheses.

Plus Apple is an American company, dumbass.

      • Gazoo Bee - 9 years ago

Actually an international company, and what the website says depends on what country you are in.

      IMO you’re a complete loser

I constantly use my phone to read PDFs of technical books such as programming books. Problem is the 9.7″ iPad yields slightly too small to read comfortably and I end up having to zoom a bit on each page. Highly annoying! A 12″ iPad would solve that problem and make me very very happy. I’ll be getting one day one if this is true.

I see two immediate personal must-have uses for this larger iPad: Music scores and comic books. A scanned page of music is honestly the killer feature here, and PDF pages in general that don’t scale well.

Given this is true, there is no longer a reason to not be able to split the screen in half if not in quarters for apps. That’s where things could get very interesting beyond the utility of the large single screen.

    Great clip.

Not sure what all the complaining is about: this is news. And it’s not just news here, it’s news on most Apple blogs. Moreover, if you know YouTube, then you should also know that most bloggers are all friendly with one another and represent a great community in a great way by supporting one another (in many generous and unexpected ways). I think that’s handsomely great and would love to be part of such a community of friends. But, the main point is that this clip is everywhere.

As per what the iPad Pro is actually for, the users will decide that. As for the use of inches, it’s the vocabulary used with most screen dimensions for most products. Like Lew (aka Unbox Therapy), I’m Canadian. We use the metric system. But we refer to screen sizes in inches. We also refer to lots of things . . . In inches. :)

Anyway, great clip. Nice looking iPad. Not for me.

    Cheers!

Why! WHY! A 12 INCH TABLET WITH 4:3 ratio! NO! I’ve used a surface pro 3 and that is a good size, doesn’t seem to big, but what this person is showing , the ipad pro will be humongous! Why buy one if you could get a macbook pro instead?

I’m very much interested in a Ipad Pro. I read comic books and the European versions are very big and they don’t read well on the regular Ipad. i think they read perfect on an Ipad Pro

  9. Since the case dimensions given yield a diagonal measurement of 14.85 inches, I have to assume that the “measures…12.5 inches diagonally,” despite its syntax, refers to screen size.

  10. Caught a look at this yesterday on unbox therapy, if they are right with the size ? It would be a very large tablet
If it was running ios i don’t think i would be very interested, however if it was rocking osx i would certainly be in line on release day picking one up.

pretty much this… an ipad pro running os x would be interesting… for surfing the web and checking mails, i’m more than happy with my 6+

Yeah, I’d get one. I use an iPad for reading music with the ForScore app and a bluetooth foot pedal to turn pages. I turn the iPad on its side (landscape mode), so the pages are nearly full size width, but I see just a bit more than half a page from top to bottom, which means twice as many foot taps to go jump from top of page to bottom of page as well as regular page turns.

It works fine, but I’d love to have a bigger iPad for fewer foot taps. I know other musicians who say they would like to use an iPad for music but are holding out for a bigger model like this.

If it only runs iOS, it will be a joke. What percentage of the current iPad users (those who ardently resist the many excellent Android and Microsoft alternatives) would/could benefit from an increase in screen size but no increase in OS functionality? 5% at most? If it runs OSX and iOS together (with a toggle button on the keyboard?), THEN we’re talking about something useful…but that machine will cannibalize Macbook sales for sure.
