Apple seeds iOS 9 public beta 2 to testers

Roughly two weeks after the initial release, Apple has pushed out an update to users testing the iOS 9 public beta on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The latest public beta release follows the earlier release of iOS 9 beta 4 for registered developers developing for the upcoming operating system update. iOS 9 is set to be completed and shipped to all users later this fall. iOS 9 public beta 2 mirror’s yesterday’s iOS 9 beta 4 release.

Although Apple floated the concept with late versions of iOS 8 point updates, iOS 9 marks the first major version of Apple’s mobile software that is available for pre-release testing to non-developers.

iOS 9 beta 4 included the return of Home Sharing for the Music app with Apple Music, a tweaked Handoff user interface for the multitasking view, picture-in-picture support for video podcast playback, an updated photo picker on the web, and several other user interface tweaks and enhancements.

The upcoming software update brings a ton of new features to iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches including an all-new iCloud-based Notes app with rich media support, a smarter Siri with deep search capabilities, a new News app for following publications and topics, and multitasking enhancements to iPad including side-by-side apps, slide over apps, and picture-in-picture video playback.

Can’t wait for it showing up in Germany

  2. OS X El Capitan Public Beta 2 is also available (1,94GB)!

You can also download the watchOS 2 Dev Beta 4 now if you are running iOS 9 Public Beta 2 as well as the beta profile on your watch.

I just started downloading all three of them :)

    • surfingarbo - 9 years ago

Can you please confirm if this is the actual “watchOS 2 Beta”, or if it’s just the beta software profile for the watch? I understand that there isn’t a public beta for watchOS, and it’s just the beta software profile you can currently download.

      • Mikey Trapp (@slcpunkin) - 9 years ago

I was able to download the beta profile (I don’t think that’s a new thing), but watchOS 2 is not available via Software Update in Watch.

      • I installed the beta profile for the watch (you can find it only, some developers uploaded it) and it offered me the update to watchOS 2 Beta. But you also need to have the iOS 9 Beta installed on your iPhone, otherwise it will not work.

  3. Installing right now.

    • The only problem with the iOS 9 PB I have is email showing me a huge number of unread emails that actually are read. The problem is still here even with PB 2.

      • marikski - 9 years ago

Try scrolling all the way to the bottom of your mail in All Inboxes, and then select all as read. It worked for me with the first iOS 9 beta.

      • I tried but I was never able to reach the bottom of it, uh.

They fixed the animations, that were kind of weird and the links to the by spotlight recommended news are finally working. I think you didn’t mention this yesterday with the dev beta

so I’m supposed to have the public beta on my in phone but it says iOS 9 beta 4…. uhh idk whats up with that

    • chris9771 - 9 years ago

uhhhh DEVELOPER version is beta 4. PUBLIC version is beta 2

      • Larry Griffin - 9 years ago

I don’t have a developer account at all … So idk why it would say beta 4…. My iPad says public beta 2 by iPhone says beta 4

    • csabia7 - 9 years ago

If you remove the profile from your phone then you will get beta 4 and no longer get public beta.

  6. Mikey Trapp (@slcpunkin) - 9 years ago

Okay, this is odd.. In the first public beta of iOS 9, there appeared to be a larger gap between the Status Bar and the first row of icons on the home screen. This gap carried over when you launched an app (it would launch with a small gap below the status bar and, after a second, correct itself. Immediately after installing iOS 9 Public Beta 2, the issue appeared to be fixed (there was no more gap, apps launched normally); but after manually restarting my iPhone, the gap issue is back. Anyone else noticing something like that?

after update speed boat (driver) game is not working

    • stevelawrence - 9 years ago

We certainly don’t need a running commentary on every app that doesn’t work on a BETA version of iOS.

PROFILE OPTION IS NOT SHOWIN AFTER UPDATE ios 9 beta 2 & feedback is also not showing in any page.

  11. taoprophet420 - 9 years ago

Glad to have AutoFill in pb 2 baxk on my iPad Air 2.

    • taoprophet420 - 9 years ago

Like being able to use Touch ID to look at all Safari passwords from the passwords option that shows up were Autofill shows up.

  12. MattR - 9 years ago

I just installed in on my iPad Mini 2…seems quicker and less buggy than beta 1!

  13. MattR - 9 years ago

How stable is the beta for iOS 9 for iPhone now? Only brave enough to try it for iPad!

  14. taoprophet420 - 9 years ago

When did the calander app get 2 icons? The icon in the search field and app switcher is different then the default icon.

  15. kjl3000 - 9 years ago

Does anybody know if this fixes the AirPlay issues with Airserver?

  16. Zabdiel Titus Scoon - 9 years ago

Is the iOS 9 Public beta available on Apple Watch? I can install the Watch profile from the public beta page but it does not come up in the Software Update screen on the Apple Watch app on my iPhone 5s.

  17. Jamushroom (@Jamushroom) - 9 years ago

So what’s the verdict with this beta so far? Worth installing on a daily driver?

    • I used PB1 on my daily phone, PB2 as well. No issues for me.

      • MattR - 9 years ago

A genius bar rep told me that they were installing PB1 on their iPhones, only to return back to 8.4 due to stability issues. I’m glad to hear that you’re having no issues though! I’ll probably give it a go on PB3…

      • Jamushroom (@Jamushroom) - 9 years ago

Awesome! I’ve installed it on my iPad Air just now and it’s running great! I’ll ask you the same question; is the animation for bringing up the multitask card view sluggish on your device? Because I don’t exactly want to experience that on my iPhone 6.

    • Tim Cleary - 9 years ago

I downloaded PB2 last night. While walking to work this morning, my 5s began randomly dialing numbers from my contact list while I was listening to Apple Music. I shut my phone off because I couldn’t get it to stop. After a reboot, it seems to be working ok now. I will be checking it throughout the day to see if it glitches again like that.

      • Jamushroom (@Jamushroom) - 9 years ago

That is a very weird glitch! I’ve installed it on my iPad Air just now and it’s running pretty great! One question; is the animation for bringing up the multitask card view sluggish on the 5s?

  18. facing editing issues in photo app after updating iOS PB 2 on iPhone 5. It is showing me saving error if I am trying to crop any image or screenshots!! and sometimes screenshots are not visible in any folder. Any other is facing the same??

  19. Andre Moore - 9 years ago

cool! I was about to take the beta off my phone. It would randomly reboot while in the middle of doing something or even on a phone call. So hoping this is a little more stable.

    • MattR - 9 years ago

Any issues with PB2 so far?

      • chaityacshah - 9 years ago

My 5s has better battery life, has become a lot faster after PB2

      • Nick Rondeau - 9 years ago

On ios 8, I had to charge my phone at the end of every day, with moderate usage throughout the day. On ios 9 Public Beta 1, I can now go 2.5 – 3 days without charging. I am not exaggerating, the battery life has improved immensely!

      • MattR - 9 years ago

Apple said you would get an extra 1-3 hours (depending on whether you had power saver mode on or not). I’m not expecting that kind of improvement, but if jailbreak was available, I would probably try it out!

  20. I can’t update El Capitan PB1 to PB2… download always stops at 108MB, I can’t figure it out.

  21. My biggest issue with the beta was it shut down my talk to text. Its crucial as I use that all the time. Did they squash that bug?

  22. elijahbash - 9 years ago

Has anyone else experienced ios 9 public beta 2 not letting you update carrier update settings and/or volume sometimes not working when you have it on?
