While we’ve reported extensively on what to expect from Apple’s next generation iPhone 6S — including Force Touch in May and what enhancements it offers last week — a fresh set of rumors are floating around today regarding the pending iPhone model ranging from expected, known, and spoofed. We’ll unpack each one below:

Probably most anticipated on this side of Apple’s upcoming product event is which date you’ll actually be able to get your hands on the new Force Touch-packing iPhone 6S. Based on past patterns, you can assume the new iPhone will be available on Friday, September 18th following the September 9th keynote introduction.

Also expected: pre-orders kicking off the Friday directly after the event and one week before shipments start. Apple often follows historical pattern when announcing and releasing new flagship products like the iPhone, and this year appears to be no different as Apple is even expected to show off its next iPhone a year to the date of the last model. Here’s how the last few years have gone:

  • iPhone 6 + iPhone 6 Plus event on September 9, 2014
  • iPhone 6 + iPhone 6 Plus released on September 19, 2014 (the following Friday)
  • iPhone 5s + iPhone 5c event on September 10, 2013
  • iPhone 5s + iPhone 5c released on September 20, 2013 (the following Friday)
  • iPhone 5 event on September 12, 2012
  • iPhone 5 released on September 21, 2012 (yep, the following Friday)

Indeed, citing sources among German iPhone providers, macerkopf.de reports that the iPhone 6S is set to hit stores and launch on September 18th. Beyond the first wave countries, a report out of the Netherlands indicates that a second wave of countries could see the new iPhones as soon as September 26th.

Okay, so not much of a surprise there, but you may have seen a claimed benchmark score of a purported iPhone 6S claiming to show the new smartphone’s processor clock speed and performance as well as memory amount with single-core and multi-core results. Pay no attention, though, as Primate Labs founder and Geekbench developer John Poole has poured a humongous glass of cold water on the faked benchmark results. Still, it’s worth a deep dive into what advancements past A-series chips from Apple have delivered year over year and how that could inform what to expect from the upcoming A9 chip.

Finally, detailed diagrams illustrating the iPhone 6S logic board shared on social media site Weibo show the expected SiP (system-in-package) design coming to Apple’s next flagship smartphone. 9to5Mac detailed the expected reduction in chips despite nearly identical shell thanks to integrated components coming with the iPhone 6S in a report published in July. Also expected: upgraded NFC hardware (Apple Pay utilized NFC and Apple recently joined the NFC Forums board of directors) and double LTE speed capability thanks to an improved LTE modem from Qualcomm.

The new iPhone 6S is expected to be unveiled in just three and a half weeks alongside a completely new Apple TV and a rumored iPad refresh.

Why the rose gold color for? If I feel the rose gold Apple Watch is too expensive, why would I get the rose gold iPhone. Hmmm to mismatch my colors? I will stick with the iPhone that matches my current Apple Watch (Silver Steel with ML)

Gold is very popular in China as well as rose gold. Apple is going to do whatever it can to please the Chinese market.

Come on guys!! Use the proper nomenclature for the ‘s’ model. It’s a lowercase ‘s’, not a capital ‘S’. You got it right when you were plotting out the dates from past events.

    • does it seriously matter…

I won’t apologize for my attention to detail, like your inability to use proper capitalization or punctuation.

With the iPhone 6s expected to be thicker are we still expecting the camera protrusion?

    • Clint (@Claustin26) - 9 years ago

Do you “go naked?” I almost always have a case on my iPhone. The protrusion hasn’t been an issue at all. I would, however, welcome a slightly thicker phone if it meant better battery life.

      • I do, and while the camera protrusion hasn’t really been an issue, I would prefer it to not be there.

Could iPhone 6s killer feature been a default low power mode to drastically extend claimed battery life? Been using the low power mode on an iPhone 5s with battery issues and have been impressed on how this feature made my phone usable again..

    iphone 6s/6s+ September? yes

new iPads? 1-3 months later than this. Larger iPad maybe December, maybe Jan. In any case, won’t likely see all multitasking features with 9.0, probably after new iPads released, and 9.1. This will not happen in September, likely Nov.-Dec. We might see iPad Mini 4 Sept.-Oct., if it’s only going to have A8, but, if they put an A9 in there, it will come out with the rest of the new iPads. If they were going to give us new iPads in September, we would see leaked parts, but, we only see leaked parts for the iPhones. Not ready.

new ATV? Jan.-March next year. No content deals are ready, so, it’s not going to happen yet. What if they release new hardware and the people they are trying to make deals with decide to wait 6 more months? No, not in September.

Just me, but I think you might be a day off from the potential scheduled debut. Wouldn’t it make sense for it to be on Sept 8th and not 9th, since Apple is known for doing key notes on tuesdays?
