Jony Ive-designed Apple company store at 1 Infinite Loop re-opens Saturday, possibly with big changes

The Apple Company Store on its 1 Infinite Loop campus, which closed for major refurbishment back in June, will re-open at 10am on Saturday – the same day its first Belgium store opens. Apple announced the Grand Reopening on its retail site.

With Jony Ive now having responsibility for all aspects of design – including retail stores – it should be interesting to see how it’s changed.

The Company Store has always been quite a different experience to all other Apple retail stores, with no iPhones, iPads or Macs on sale. Instead, the store has majored on Apple-branded clothing and other brand-oriented products. But sources told us back in June that things may be very different when it reopens …

One plan discussed has been to feature items from Apple’s history, suggesting that it might be part store, part museum. Apple also reportedly considered moving away from company-branded clothing.

As always with Apple, many things are considered before final decisions are made, so we’ll have to wait until Saturday to find out what the new store experience will offer.

I wish I lived closer – I know, Ben, that I’m a lot closer than you – I’d really like to get in there and see what Apple “gear” they sell. Oh, well, maybe my next trip to the coast could be extended to cover this store.

I sure hope they don’t discontinue the Apple-branded clothing. I stop by once a year when visiting family in the area, and while I’m not always psyched about a $45 polo, occasionally I find something really nice. My “I visited the Apple campus. But that’s all I’m allowed to say” shirt has gotten a few smiles, but I wish I’d gotten the “It’s our thinnest, lightest t-shirt yet” T-shirt.

I have the “It’s our thinnest, most lightweight t-shirt yet” shirt, and it always gets lots of laughs and smirks.

    “Jony Ive-designed” ?
I wonder how he managed to make the store thin and light…

We can only hope for a Sir Jony signature video showing off the reduced thickness of the walls and unibody design of the floor tiles.

Dang – I miss my apple polo shirt from (ahem…) some years back..not that I’d fit in it any more. Still – it’d be great to find a new, authentic one…

Hmmmm . . . . Possibly an “underground” business opportunity for some enterprising individual around One Infinite Loop – taking orders and buying and shipping Apple branded “stuff” for profit?

    You didn’t see it here.
