Video roundup: Hands-on with the new iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro

Apple earlier today officially took the wraps off of the iPhone SE and iPad Pro 9.7-inch. While the two devices are largely similar to devices we’ve seen in the past, there are a few tweaks here and there that people have been requesting to get a look at. Members of the press who were in attendance of the event at Apple’s campus in Cupertino had an opportunity to go hands-on with the new iPhone and iPad and videos have been rolling in…

Jon Rettinger of TechnoBuffalo went hands-on with the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro at the event in Cupertino, showing off features such as its new True Tone display, the infamous camera bump on the back, noting of the increased price, and more.

Furthermore, Rettinger also showed off using the Apple Pencil with the iPad Pro 9.7-inch, as well as the new, smaller Smart Keyboard accessory made for the device, as well as the new rose gold color variant that is exclusive to the smaller iPad Pro model.

TechnoBuffalo’s video can be seen below:

TechnoBuffalo also went hands-on with the iPhone SE, showing off the new rose gold model of the device, as well as the speed and performance, camera capabilities, and more.

The Verge and CNET also both went hands-on with the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro. The outlets showed off the Smart Connector on the side of the device. Dieter Bohn of The Verge noted that the keyboard on the smaller iPad Pro requires some getting used to, but overall is fine.

Sascha Segan of PCMag also got to try out the iPad Pro, as did Lance Ulanoff of Mashable. Segan noted of how the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is nearly the same as the iPad Air 2 in terms of size and weight, but the speakers are much more powerful.

Moving on to the iPhone SE, Dieter Bohn of The Verge compared Apple’s latest flagship 4-inch device to the iPhone 5s, showing off the few design differences that there are, such as the matte border around the edges. Bohn also showed off the device’s support for Live Photos, but lack of 3D Touch. Segan of PCMag noted of many of the same things, showing off the speed of the device and more.

So the two things consistently coming up is the camera bump and low storage of the entry level devices. Come on Apple, this changes us from Apple fanboys to mere Apple likers, and in the long run easily converted.

I agree, 16GB base model, of which how many GB can you use? about 10?12?. And then a heavy increase in price for the 64GB. Apple knows most people will go for the 64GB version.
      Clever marketing.

From Apple lover to Apple “liker”. The presentation itself was what one would expect: a few upgrades, nothing spectacular and the audience (that pays money to attend) clap clap at every 3rd sentence.

I can almost see Phil Schiller cringe at trying to get people excited, enthusiastic, when, well, we’ve all been there, done that since the iPhone 5.

Although I can imagine its difficult to make radical changes, but at least use the best available hardware (at the time) for the best product, now its more like:
“well if we save $0.05 cents on this component, we lose 1 MP in the camera, but we can earn $1.55 overall – lets do that”
Whereas in the “old days” it was:
“What is the best hardware available that we can cram into it? Lets do that.”

      “Converted” to…where, exactly?

      ——

“What is the best hardware available that we can cram into it? Lets do that”

Like the 2MP camera in the original iPhone, you mean¿

Well back in 2007, the 2MP camera wasn’t the “worst” thing available, when everyone else was doing a 1.2MP VGA camera.

        Touché.

  2. I’m so happy the SE looks like the beautiful 5S! I’ll be buying 2 Space Grey 64gb’s! Though I would have preferred 128gb, maybe next time, Apple.

Hate to tell you, but some people like choice. Some want larger, some one smaller, some one more storage, others don’t need it, 16GB is fine in my phone, it’s rarely above 8 gig used. My iPad is 128. This phone is ideal for my needs at 16GB in this smaller form factor. I guess sales will tell how many others feel the same way.

One = want. Really is time we could edit comments – come in 9to5mac, let’s get that sorted please!

Maybe but for the majority not the extremely rare cases such as yourself people require more than just 10gb usable space. Even my 77 year old father in law, my 58 year old mother and 3 year old daughter NEED more space than that!

The justification for Apple’s decision just isn’t there when a 128gb flush fit usb memory stick costs £10 retail isn’t there with their profit margins running at the rate they are. It’s not the Steve Jobs way of doing things. He would never have left it so low for so long, fact!

      • PhilBoogie - 8 years ago

Oh FFS, leave Steve out of your opinion please.

        It’s relevant to the comment
