Apple reportedly boosts iPhone 7 production orders ahead of Wednesday announcement event

Apple is apparently increasing production orders for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which will be officially unveiled at the company’s fall media event on Wednesday September 7, according to a new report by Digitimes.

Although Digitimes makes often unreliable claims, it is more accurate with supply chain reporting like this one. The report says Apple has boosted production for iPhone 7 components by about 10%. A reason for the spike in production is not given but it implies Apple is more confident about iPhone 7 sales this year than it was initially.

Apple regularly changes production plans so its always hard to triangulate a trend but investors are anxious to see customer reception to Apple’s new flagships with many labelling the rumors about the upcoming iPhone as ‘boring’ given the device’s external appearance will not drastically change.

The iPhone 7 will feature a design close to the iPhone 6s but will feature sleeker antenna lines and lack a headphone jack. Apple will rely on . A report from analyst KGI detailed many of the expected new features in a weekend report, including the radical new ‘dual camera’ rumored for the larger iPhone 7 Plus.

The iPhone 7 is also expected to debut in two new colors, with Space Grey being replaced by a darker grey finish as well as the addition of a new glossy ‘piano’ black color. Of course, we’ll know for sure on Wednesday when Apple unveils the iPhone 7 for real. Stay tuned to 9to5Mac for comprehensive coverage of all the announcements!
