To very little fanfare, Yahoo today released a new mobile application for its Yahoo Answers Q&A service. Yahoo had quietly been testing the service under a different name, Yahoo Hive, but it has since rebranded the app to Yahoo Answers Now and made it fall more inline with the web version (via TechCrunch).
While Yahoo Hive looked to be Yahoo’s attempt at competing with Quora, Yahoo Answers Now is more related to the longstanding and hugely popular Yahoo Answers website.
Yahoo Answers Now makes it incredibly easy for users to search for questions and instantly receive answers. Upon opening the app, you’ll see a handful of featured questions that show up based on popularity. The navigation menu on the right side of the app allows you to ask a question, view by category, and more.
At the top of the interface is a search icon for looking for answers to a specific question you may have. The app also supports user profiles, allowing you to see the bio, rating, profile pic, and stats of fellow Yahoo Answers users.
Yahoo Answers Now is a new app that provides unique answers for those unsearchable questions that you can’t find on the web.
While Yahoo Answers can be incredibly useful, it has also been plagued by questions and answers that are painfully stupid. Nevertheless, the service remains one of the web’s largest Q&A services and its launch on iOS will likely be met with praise.
At this point, Yahoo Answers Now is still in the invite-only period on iOS. You can, however, request an invite by emailing yan-invites@yahoo-inc.com, though it’s unclear as to what criteria Yahoo is using for invites.
It’s unclear when Yahoo plans to formally launch Yahoo Answers Now for iOS, but we can expect a bit more fanfare when that day comes. For now, you can download the app for free from the App Store and try your hand at requesting an invite from Yahoo.
