PSA: You’ll be able to try your luck at buying AirPods in Apple Stores starting Monday

Apple finally released its truly wireless AirPods earlier this week, nearly a month later than initially expected. Within an hour of becoming available, however, stock started to run low and shipping times slipped into 2017. If you’re still set on obtaining AirPods before we ring in the new year, it looks like you’ll have a few more opportunities to do so…

According to an anonymous retail source speaking to MacRumors, Apple has been in communication with retail locations concerning the AirPods launch and is beginning to ship AirPods stock to stores. As of now, Apple plans to begin selling AirPods in retail locations on Monday morning, according to today’s report.

In addition to Apple’s own retail stores, AirPods are also expected to hit carrier stores and Apple Authorized Resellers on Monday.

While it’s unclear how many units each store will receive, availability will likely be severely constrained. Seeing how fast AirPods slipped in shipping times online, supply seems severely limited and will probably remain that way through early 2017.

Apple hinted earlier this week at retail availability for AirPods, but failed to offer any specifics. While today’s news has not been confirmed by Apple, Monday morning retail availability for AirPods makes sense seeing how it’s the holiday shopping season.

If you visit an Apple Store on Monday to purchase AirPods but come out empty-handed, don’t get too discouraged. The company did say earlier this week that retail stores would receive “regular shipments” going forward.

Personally, I missed the 2016 delivery window for AirPods when they hit Apple’s Online Store, so I’ll be trying my luck on Monday at a retail location. I’ll be sure to report back with how the search goes and any first impressions I have of the truly wireless earbuds.
