As reported by Reno Gazette Journal, Tim Cook unexpectedly showed up to celebrate the groundbreaking of Apple’s latest facility today at its data center in Reno, Nevada.
Initial plans for the Reno data center began all the way back in 2012. Today’s celebration of a new warehouse facility at the Reno data center happened alongside a big announcement from Apple about a $350B investment in the US economy along with a new campus.
Cook joined Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve for the official festivities. The Reno data center currently includes 1.1 million square feet and the new warehouse expand on that and will allow Apple to receive the full tax benefits from the city.
Apple has invested a total of $2B in the Reno facilities. Reno Gazette Journal was able to take a tour of the data center and also shared a few images of the in-progress warehouse.
