Apple renews Carpool Karaoke spin-off for a second season

One of Apple’s first original content efforts was a spin-off of James Corden’s popular Carpool Karaoke segment from The Late Late Show on CBS. While early reviews and user response to the series were mixed, Apple has renewed its Carpool Karaoke spin-off for a second season…

CBS made the announcement during its earnings call this afternoon, leaving details sparse but confirming that a second season of Carpool Karaoke is indeed happening.

Elsewhere in the call, CBS touted that its All Access and Showtime streaming services have surpassed 5 million subscribers. All in all, the company posted a net loss of $41 million for Q4 2017, which is down from the $113 million loss it reported in the year-ago quarter.

Carpool Karaoke began as a segment on James Corden’s The Late Late Show and clips quickly started going viral as the show gained popularity. Apple entered the game when it purchased rights to the segment back in July of 2016, but it wasn’t until August of 2017 that the first episode was released.

For the first season of the spin-off, Apple released weekly episodes of Carpool Karaoke on Apple Music, each starring a different pairing of celebrities. Corden himself served as an executive producer, but did not regularly appear in episodes. The company has not yet commented on a renewal of the show.

The jury is still out on whether Planet of the Apps will be renewed for a second season. Are you excited for Carpool Karaoke season 2 on Apple Music? Let us know down in the comments.
