This week’s top stories: A new pro-focused Mac mini, Apple registers the Apple Watch Series 4, more

In this week’s top stories: Apple prepares for the release of new Apple Watch models this fall, Netflix looks to avoid sharing App Store earnings, two new iOS 12 betas, and more. Read on for all of this week’s top stories.

Ahead of its expected press event next month, Apple this week registered six new Apple Watch models in a Eurasian database. The ‘Series 4’ is listed with six model identifiers in the database and is noted as shipping with watchOS 5. We should know more directly from Apple in just a few weeks.

Also this week, it was reported that Netflix is looking to bypass iTunes billing. Such a move on Netflix’s part is clearly a way to bypass the cut that Apple takes of subscription revenue. Currently, Apple receives 30 percent of first-year Netflix subscriptions and 15 percent from the second year on.

As for the Mac, a report from Bloomberg on Monday suggested that Apple’s update to the Mac mini this year will target pro users and be more expensive than past models. Generally, the Mac mini has served as the cheapest way to enter the macOS ecosystem, but it now seems as if that might change this year.

Last but not least, a report on Tuesday indicated that Ikea plans to expand its Tradfri line of HomeKit accessories. The company currently offers various smart lighting accessories, but according to this week’s report, it will soon add a smart plug to that lineup.
