In this week’s top stories: Apple holds its September event at Steve Jobs Theater, unveiling the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and Apple Watch Series 4. We have everything you need to know below. Read on for all of this week’s top stories.
Apple event day was Wednesday, and things got off to an exciting start when Apple inadvertently updated its sitemap to include references to all of its new products – and indicate which ones weren’t coming.
Apple kicked things off with the introduction of the Apple Watch Series 4. As we expected, the Series 4 features a 30 percent larger display – this means the display stretches closer to the edges, while Apple has also updated the case sizing from 38mm and 42mm to 40mm and 44mm.
Other improvements to the Apple Watch include a thinner design, a new Digital Crown, a new gold stainless steel color, and more. Pre-orders for the Apple Watch Series 4 started on Friday, with the device arrive to the first customers on September 21st.
Apple’s event also brought the introduction of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The iPhone XS Max features a massive 6.5-inch display, while both models are available in a gold color and a 512GB storage option. Other improvements include a new A12 Bionic processor, camera enhancements, and more.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max went up for pre-order on Friday, with availability starting September 21st.
Last but not least, Apple introduced the colorful new iPhone XR. This device features an LCD display and is available in six colors: black, white, coral, yellow, blue, and (PRODUCT)RED. The iPhone XR starts at $749 and lacks features like 3D Touch and a dual-lens camera.
Pre-orders for the iPhone XR will start on October 19th and ship on October 26th.
Just as notable as the products Apple announced at its event were those it didn’t announce: iPad Pros are seemingly being saved for next month, as are new Macs. Perhaps most notably for the September event, however, is that both AirPower and AirPods went by without a single mention.
In non-event news, Ming-Chi Kuo published a new analyst note this week suggesting that this year’s iPad Pro refresh will drop Lightning connectivity in favor of USB-C. Apple is expected to introduce its new iPad Pro lineup next month.
