Steve Carell making first return to TV after The Office in Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon drama for Apple

News about Apple’s upcoming video subscription service has been relatively quiet over the past month or so. However, today The Hollywood Reporter reports that Steve Carell will be joining Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in the upcoming unnamed Apple TV drama.

The new show for Carell will mark the first regular role he’s had since finishing up NBC’s The Office in 2011. This is an example of yet another major actor joining in on the upcoming series that Apple is reportedly working on.

This drama, which has been reported to have two seasons with 20-episodes total, will show a behind-the-scenes look at “the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning.” It will be based off of Brian Stelter’s book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, which is based on an original concept by Michael Ellenberg.

Carell’s character will be based on a morning show anchor (Mitch Kessler) who is struggling in the ever-changing media landscape.

Details about the upcoming series are sparse as Apple is keeping all of its projects under wraps for now. The company will reportedly announce the service sometime in 2019.
