I have the pleasure to present you Video Explorer, the ultimate light player for Apple TV, which has just been approved for the App Store, and will be ready since day 1.
It’s simple, but very useful: it will automatically detect any media server on your LAN (Including PLEX servers, NAS, and Shared files from your computer) and will let you play any kind of video file you have inside them: AVI, MP4, MOV, MPG, MKV… Almost every video format.

Very disappointed with this. Despite the description saying it’s free, I’ve been charged £149 for it. On top of that, it won’t open a single video file (all .mp4 that work perfectly on my iPhone, iPad & Apple TV 2 & 3). Anyone know how to contact the Dev?

Send me an email and I will help you, the app is able to play any video format (but it has some bugs in current version 1.0 and 1.0.1)
I have already submitted a new 1.1 version (tested with the help of many users) that fixes a problem while playing video files on SMB servers.
(Sorry about the confusion with price, it was free until yesterday, so maybe there was a delay on the App Store changing the description :( )
Problems with the pictures from NAS also…..just flashing when clicking on the pictures. Not possible to see the pictures…
Can this app play dvd iso and img files?
Update 1.1, released yesterday, addresses many bugs and problems with NAS.
It also adds support for built-in subtitles and audio tracks!
I have two questions…
1. When I choose on Apple TV the menu to choose subtitle, how do I get rid of it?
2. It would be very appreciated if you could add some feature to filter file formats that is not necessary to see. Maybe a settings page where we can choose freely which file format shall only be visible?
