Apple’s done it again with some keen marketing. Engadget grabbed this video of an iPad making its second round on a TV program.

Walt starts pretty positive:

For the past week or so, I have been testing a sleek, light, silver-and-black tablet computer called an iPad. After spending hours and hours with it, I believe this beautiful new touch-screen device from Apple has the potential to change portable computing profoundly, and to challenge the primacy of the laptop. It could even help, eventually, to propel the finger-driven, multitouch user interface ahead of the mouse-driven interface that has prevailed for decades.

A couple of details from the video:

• Walt played videos continuously and the battery lasted 11.5 hours!  That’s 15% more than Apple had claimed it would last!  We could get used to these underestimates on battery life…
• He found the onscreen keyboard easy to use and NOT a hassle
• Walt says “program” kind of funky…

Something we’ve missed from yesterday’s iTunes announcement.  If you go to somewhere like Project Gutenberg and download the ePub version of Hamlet, iTunes lets you drag it into your Books folder.  From there you are stuck, it doesn’t open

Apple today sent letters to customers who ordered expidited delivery as their iPad shipments won’t arrive any earlier than those who didn’t.  The email is pasted below:

We might have a blockbuster on our hands here folks.  Gizmodo’s reliable source says that German consumers have ordered 3.5 times what was predicted: 250,000 iPads.  (We didn’t even know they were taking pre-orders

I hadn’t really even thought about it, but CNET wants to let us down lightly:  There isn’t going to be streaming music for the iPad launch.   That is unless you have Spotify, which means you are probably either in, or pretending to be in Europe where it has cleared the Apple’s approval gauntlet.  Spotify was even updated this week with some spiffy new features (details below).

As long as I can use Pandora (eventually as a background process?) on the iPad, I’m cool.

The numbers this week from two separate sources seem to indicate that Apple’s iPhone may not be the run-away success that the iPod was and Apple shouldn’t soon expect it to own a majority of the market.

Who’s in the way? Android.
