What will Apple's iPad Remote.app look like?

You can see from the above iTunes screenshot that the iPad will get a remote.app from Apple to control iTunes, FrontRow and AppleTV.  Apple has the opportunity to really do something special with the iPad remote for iTunes, however.  (Think video previews, mixing, Coverflow, etc.) Do you think they’ll exploit the new format or will the iPad Remote.app be the same as the iPhone/iPod touch variety?

So much for Steve Jobs’ $.99/episode model.  The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the iPad will be getting free shows (with commercials) from CBS and ABC.  ABC will be creating an iPad App that will inject commercials into its content and should be available shortly.

CBS Corp. and Walt Disney Co.’s ABC are adapting episodes of their TV shows to be viewable free of charge on Apple Inc.’s new iPad, according to people familiar with the matter, offering Apple new TV content as it prepares for the multimedia gadget’s Saturday release. The two U.S. networks are planning to stream their TV shows over the Internet with commercial breaks, similar to on their existing Web sites, people briefed on the plans said. CBS plans to stream episodes of TV shows through the iPad’s built-in Web browser, while ABC plans to stream its shows in an iPad application, the people said. CBS and ABC have struck a deal with Apple to stream some shows over the new iPad. By Saturday, CBS plans to have full episodes of the reality series “Survivor” ready for an iPad-specific version of its CBS.com Web site. It also plans to offer promotional clips of several other shows, including crime-solving drama “The Mentalist” and sitcom “How I Met Your Mother.”

So it looks like the networks might be looking to circumvent iTunes (and Hulu as well?).

Here they Come! Mossberg's iPad review hits the wires

So much for everyone getting rid of Flash! Here’s his review: http://s.wsj.net/media/swf/microPlayer.swf

Walt starts pretty positive:

For the past week or so, I have been testing a sleek, light, silver-and-black tablet computer called an iPad. After spending hours and hours with it, I believe this beautiful new touch-screen device from Apple has the potential to change portable computing profoundly, and to challenge the primacy of the laptop. It could even help, eventually, to propel the finger-driven, multitouch user interface ahead of the mouse-driven interface that has prevailed for decades.

A couple of details from the video:

  • Walt played videos continuously and the battery lasted 11.5 hours!  That’s 15% more than Apple had claimed it would last!  We could get used to these underestimates on battery life…
  • He found the onscreen keyboard easy to use and NOT a hassle
  • Walt says “program” kind of funky…

Apple’s streaming music service sees delays as Spotify gets upgrade in Europe

I hadn’t really even thought about it, but CNET wants to let us down lightly:  There isn’t going to be streaming music for the iPad launch.   That is unless you have Spotify, which means you are probably either in, or pretending to be in Europe where it has cleared the Apple’s approval gauntlet.  Spotify was even updated this week with some spiffy new features (details below).

As long as I can use Pandora (eventually as a background process?) on the iPad, I’m cool.

AirHarp for iPad is what happens when developers mix the popularity of the virtual guitars on the iPhone with the space of an iPad.

By the way, that is not a camera you see on that iPad, it is a figment of your imagination (
