iPad App Store can now sort by Release Date

Site default logo image

Apple has updated the App Store on the iPad with a new section in Featured called ‘Release Date.’ This section shows all the iPad Apps in the order they were launched. This adds new organization to the App Store and makes it incredibly easy for iPad owners to browse for new Apps on the fly.

Apple is yet to add this feature to the App Store on the iPhone and iPod touch, but they may do so in the future. We are glad to see Apple is improving the App Store and hope they have more in store for the near-future.

Thanks Kaz!

Apple Stores to Close from 4-5 PM Tomorrow for iPad 3G Launch

Apple has confirmed their official retail stores will be closed for one hour tomorrow, from 4-5 PM, in order to prepare for the launch of the iPad 3G. Since the iPad with only WiFi had a major launch earlier this month, many thought Apple would not try to gather the crowds for the 3G version. Now it seems Apple is doing some preparation, and they are expecting some lines around the country. We are expecting to have our iPad 3G unboxing live tomorrow afternoon for those interested.

iPhone 4th Gen finder: Brian Hogan

Wired reports that 21-year old Brian Hogan (pictured above) is the person who found the iPhone 4G that has been causing the recent stir, because he eventually sold it to Gizmodo for a review.

CNET reports that a middleman, Sage Robert Wallower, a 27-year-old University of California at Berkeley student, contacted technology sites to try to sell the device.  Eventually Gizmodo bought it for $5000 and published a number of images and videos of the device.

Both are cooperating in the ongoing investigations into the matter.

Apple patents whole new library of multi-touch language

Patently Apple today shows off images from some recently filed Apple patents that seem to detail additional multi-touch language.  These gestures could easily find their  way into upcoming Apple software updates/products (although probably just a few at a time).  We supposed we should get around to learning this stuff at some point.

Also, another interesting but unrelated feature in the Patently Apple post: iPod adjusts music tempo based on your performance.  For example, if your heart rate falls below target, the tempo of your music increases to help get you back up to where you want to be.  And vice versa.  Smart.

The Apple stuff starts at 1:20-ish (sorry non-Flash users).  Originally posted on Gawker.TV (unsurprisingly).  Transcript, below.

“Apple – you guys were the rebels, man, the underdogs. People believed in you. But now, are you becoming the man? Remember back in 1984, you had those awesome ads about overthrowing Big Brother? Look in the mirror, man!

Loren at Atebits has updated the Tweetie 2 iPhone app one last time before it comes under control of Twitter as its official iPhone app.  This update is minimal and only fixes a a Foursquare bug and also has a final Easter Egg (use combo below to find it).  If you haven’t bought it yet, don’t spend the $2.99. Twitter has already announced that it will be free when they release it as Twitter for iPhone.

In patent battle vs. Apple, HTC and Google's Android find unlikely ally in Microsoft

Site default logo image

What’s the saying? “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”…even if that new friend is also the enemy?

Microsoft, this evening, issued a press release saying that it and HTC had agreed to a broad patent-sharing agreement which would help HTC fight its patent battles (with Apple).  But it isn’t just HTC’s Windows Mobile phones that the agreement covers.  Microsoft is also specifically covering Google’s Android phones as well.
