Next year’s AirPods Pro might cost more, here’s why I’m all for it

AirPods Pro 3 just launched in September, but rumors indicate Apple has a new, high-end variant coming next year with IR cameras and a premium price. Here’s why I’m all for a more expensive AirPods Pro model.

Higher-end AirPods Pro 3 could launch next year for nearly $299

AirPods Pro have been one of my all-time favorite Apple products since the original model launched in 2019.

And for the six years of the product’s life, Apple has priced AirPods Pro at $249.

But next year, it sounds like that’s finally changing.

Per leaker Instant Digital, Apple plans to expand its AirPods Pro lineup from one model to two in 2026.

The current AirPods Pro 3 will still be available at $249, but Apple plans to also launch a higher-end AirPods Pro 3 model with infrared cameras to enable AI features.

The leaker says this new model is expected to be priced at or over $280. Personally, I could see them being priced as high as $299.

And while higher prices alone are nothing to celebrate, I am excited by this report because it means Apple aims to make one of my favorite products even more powerful than ever.

I use my AirPods Pro 3 all day, every day during the work week. And when I’m not working, I take them with me wherever I go, wearing them as I walk the streets of New York. The main time I’m not using them is when I’m with other people.

I haven’t measured this, but AirPods Pro could very well be my most-used Apple product. And ever since my early AirPods Pro 3 comfort issues started going away, I’ve been extremely happy with the latest model.

And yet, despite my contentment with AirPods Pro 3, I’m still very intrigued by the thought of a higher-end option.

Because I use AirPods Pro so much, the idea of Apple pushing the product even further excites me.

I don’t know what specific capabilities IR cameras will unlock. I’m assuming Apple will make whatever AI or visual intelligence features worth that higher price point.

And if the new enhancements prove compelling, a more premium model of AirPods Pro is an idea I’m fully behind. Since I use the product so much, whatever additional capabilities Apple can add is a win.

As long as the standard AirPods Pro 3 are still around at $249, Apple experimenting with a higher tier model sounds like a great move to me.
