Apple Health integration launches in new ‘ChatGPT Health’ feature

Today OpenAI has launched ‘ChatGPT Health,’ a new feature powered by integration with Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and more.

ChatGPT Health aims to better serve growing demand for AI health guidance

OpenAI says that over 230 million users around the world ask ChatGPT health and wellness related questions every week.

And now, following a leak last month, ChatGPT Health has arrived as a better way to serve those users—to “support, not replace, medical care…not intended for diagnosis or treatment.”

Per the announcement post, this new feature is “a dedicated experience that securely brings your health information and ChatGPT’s intelligence together, to help you feel more informed, prepared, and confident navigating your health.”

ChatGPT Health depends on partners to provide it with health data, which so far include:

  • Apple Health
  • Function
  • MyFitnessPal
  • Weight Watchers
  • and more

Users can, of course, decide which partners—if any—can share their personal data with ChatGPT.

OpenAI says this new feature was developed over two years with guidance from physicians around the world:

Over two years, we’ve worked with more than 260 physicians who have practiced in 60 countries and dozens of specialties to understand what makes an answer to a health question helpful or potentially harmful—this group has now provided feedback on model outputs over 600,000 times across 30 areas of focus. This collaboration has shaped not just what Health can do, but how it responds: how urgently to encourage follow-ups with a clinician, how to communicate clearly without oversimplifying, and how to prioritize safety in moments that matter.

OpenAI says ChatGPT Health lives in a dedicated space, in part, because it comes with unique privacy enhancements. They include the following:

  1. “purpose-built encryption and isolation—to keep health conversations protected and compartmentalized”
  2. ”Conversations in Health are not used to train our foundation models.”

ChatGPT Health is rolling out to a limited set of users initially before expanding. You can find full details here.
