Mossberg: Droid aimed at iPhone, Verizon's best phone

Mossberg reviews the Droid with the inevitable comparisons to the iPhone. Key downsides: Camera, Keyboard (cramped, no autocorrect), only 12,000 apps. Likes the docks, navigation system, network. More.
I really like the car and desk docks' functionality. Wouldn't woo we away from the iPhone, but nice to see someone come closer to nipping at Apple's heels because it will make Apple innovate and widen its lead more quickly than it otherwise might. I've gotten used to AT&T's bandwidth, and find some of the apps to access a particular Web site such as the one for the Huffington Post run quickly on little bandwidth.
I don't understand when people make statements like "it will make Apple innovate". They make it sound like the industry can only advance if Apple is somehow pushed or forced to lead. There are all lot on other companies out there. They to could push their own innovations. They don't need Apple to lead the way and Apple doesn't need them. Since when has Apple ever done anything quickly. They march to their own drummer. Always have. Always will.
The other thing is... What innovations are you looking for? You you want them to innovate but you don't say what you want or what a future cell phone or computer could possibly do better than ones we have today.
Next time be specific with your comment. Yours should have stopped with... "I really like the car and desk docks' functionality." and thats it.
Stop commenting with your random, vague, opinionated, techie gibber-jabber that you probably read somewhere else and that you probably don't understand anyway.
I hate the web. Everybody thinks that they're a goddam expert that should be heard.
Wow, you having a bad morning? I agree with Smith that this will further push Apple to innovate with the iPhone, in areas where they could use it, and to raise the bar for other Android devices, blackberries, or whatever else. I think his point was, whenever one company innovates something great, it drives competition and pushes the others.
But in many ways, iPhone is the leader right now in user experience, ease of use, media playback, and definitely apps, and although some might not want to admit it, in this decade Apple has definitely been driving the tech industry in innovation. The iPhone however is also missing some things I desperately want like multi-tasking and a less intrusive notification system, things that the Droid does. And since I prefer the iPhone UI, the Droid could push Apple to include those innovations in their next O.S. release. That's the beauty of competition!
When the iphone apeared it had no apps and no one complained about that. Now Mossberg feels 12,000 available android apps is a liability. I00,00 apps is rich but if you factor duplicate functionality that number is reduced substantially. Who needs or can even use more than several or a hundred apps.
Mossberg's biggest gripe is with the keyboard which is kinda ironic since the iphone keyboard is awful and perhaps just a small step above numeric pad character entry.
All in all, Mossberg is an Apple shill and he doesnt seem to even know it.
You must be an idiot if you write stuff like: "Mossberg's biggest gripe is with the keyboard which is kinda ironic since the iphone keyboard is awful and perhaps just a small step above numeric pad character entry."
I'm hoping that competition will bring innovation. I love my iPhone but I sure miss the multi-tasking, gestures, layered calendar, multiple-exchange accounts that I had on my Pre. I switched because of work and travel, otherwise I would have kept the phone.
Earlier a comment was made about 100,000 apps. Doesn't mean a whole lot in my opinion. This website has an article showing that only 20,000 of the apps get any sort of popularity and only 5 or so are found on most people's iPhones. I willing to bet that those 5 apps can also be found on Android.
Lastly, Google Voice is free and should be available to us on AT&T. Ring Central is an alternative, but who wants to pay an additional $10 per month on an already high iPhone cell phone plan? Not me, for now I'll jailbreak my iPhone and GV for free.
Lastly, why can't we get themes on our iPhones without JB? I would gladly pay for an "approved" theme, custom alerts etc.

My 2 cents.
"make Apple innovate"?????
"make Apple innovate"?????
Were it not for Apple innovations, this thing wouldn't exist, Android wouldn't exist. The current smartphone was defined by the innovations at Apple.
