While Apple’s Black Friday deals started going live in Australia and elsewhere today with Apple Store Gift Cards in place of traditional discounts, it appears Apple will be offering discounts and not gift cards in at least some countries. The UK, France, Germany and other European Apple Online Stores have now started posting Black Friday promotions with discounts on iPads, MacBooks, iPods, Apple TV, and many accessories. Read more
It can be hard to cut through the noise with just about every retailer online having sales for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the best deals available only for iPad, iPhone, iPods, and Mac. You won’t find any deals on TVs or microwaves in the list below, just the best of the best accessories for your iOS device and Mac, and we’ve only included great products from companies we trust (many of which we’ve reviewed personally). If you still need to buy a Mac, iPhone, or iPad first, you’ll also find a roundup of the best deals on Apple hardware from 9to5Toys at the bottom. As always, we’ll update as more deals are announced throughout the weekend and you can send any you might find to tips@9to5Mac.com. Read more
Update: Live in Australia.
As part of the American Black Friday sales tradition, Apple typically offers minimal discounts on its own products and third-party accessories via its online and physical retail stores. However, this year will be significantly different. According to multiple sources, Apple’s sales event this Friday will be based around gift cards, not discounts on products. If a customer buys a product from Apple on Black Friday, instead of receiving a discount, they will be given an Apple Store gift card. This gift card will likely not be able to be used at the time of purchase, solely at a later date. The setup is similar to that of Apple’s recent Back to School campaigns, but it is Apple Store cards, not iTunes cards…
As we’ve noted on a few occasions, Sprint pre-paid subsidiaryBoost Mobile is now carrying the iPhone for the first time in its history. Launching today, the iPhone 5s and 5c are $100 off of Apple’s retail price if ordered online. However, Boost is running a special promotion until November 24th where you get an additional $100 off if you switch in store from another carrier. I confirmed the deal with a PR rep who said:
Yes. Now through Nov. 24 new customers who come into a participating Boost Mobile store and switch to Boost Mobile from another carrier will be eligible for a special in-store promotion of $100 off any device bringing new customers additional cost savings. The link below will help consumers find participating stores in their area that are selling iPhone.
Tomorrow, Best Buy will reboot its “free iPhone 5″ with iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S trade-in campaign. Best Buy ran this special for one-day earlier this month, and the company said that that day was its most successful device trade-in day ever. Here’s how the program works:
Update: Deal is now live. Today / in-store only.
This morning CNET confirmed some of the same rumblings we’ve been hearing from retail tipsters. Best Buy will be offering $150 trade-in value for any iPhone 4 / 4S, yielding a free 16GB iPhone 5 (Sprint, Verizon or AT&T) with a 2 year contract thanks to their current $50 off promo. This deal is only valid in-stores on Saturday June 1st.
Definitely a solid deal for heavily used, less desirable models (Sprint, Verizon), but be sure to check other trade-in services before heading into a Best Buy store. For instance, Gazelle will pay you $215 for a 64GB iPhone 4S AT&T (good condition), plus another $10 if you use the special 9toToys promo. In some cases, Amazon will pay upwards of $300 for an iPhone 4S. Per usual, selling privately (eBay, Craigslist, etc) generally yields the highest payout but requires the most time and effort. Make sure you survey all of your options before jumping into bed with Best Buy.
We covered this earlier this week when it was under $7 but it bears repeating as the price is still under $10.
Usually, these ‘name your own price’ bundles are full of duds but this one is pretty impressive. You get Mac Blu-ray Player, Snapz Pro, Disk Tools, CrossOver, Paperless OCR, Gemini de-duper, MusicTube and more. There is a catch though. It isn’t really “name your own price”, it is pay a bit more than the last folks did. The good news is that it is currently under $9.17. The bad news is that the more people that buy, the higher the price goes, so get in quick. Read more
MacConnection quietly updated their price on the 13-inch Retina MAcBook Pro to $1299 with free shipping last night. That’s $200 off Apple’s price and the lowest we’ve ever seen for a Retina Display MacBook Pro. This is the base model with 2.5GHz Core i5, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD.
